Saturday, Oct. 31

Class A Central

No. 2 St. John Vianney 48, Monmouth 0

Senior quarterback Anthony Brown threw four touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Lancers (8-0, 5-0) past the Falcons (3-4, 1-4).

Brown threw touchdowns of 40 and 27 yards to Mike Stapert, connected with Khalil Haskins on a 6-yard score and tossed a 4-yard touchdown to Marcque Ellington. Brown also ran for a 4-yard touchdown.

Calvin Beaty added a 2-yard touchdown run and Mike Bordfield recovered a fumble in the end zone on the final play of the game.

 

Matawan 30, Manasquan 27

Senior Adam Elliot kicked a 25-yard field goal with four seconds left in regulation and Matawan stopped Manasquan on a Hail Mary attempt on the game's final play for a wild victory and its fifth straight win.

Matawan (5-3, 3-3) drove from its own 21-yard line to the Manasquan 1-yard line on eight straight runs by senior running back Makiya Ceasar to set up Elliot's game-winning kick. Elliot had missed an extra point in the fourth quarter after Matawan took a 27-21 lead, but found vindication in nailing the winner. Senior Shawn Ramcheran kept the score tied when he blocked a Manasquan extra point after the Warriors had scored to tie the game at 27 with 3:55 left in the fourth quarter.

Ceasar finished with 182 yards rushing on 25 carries and also caught a 49-yard touchdown pass. Sophomore quarterback George Pearson threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 11-of-17 passing, also connecting with Aliem Shaw on a 77-yard score and Ramcheran on a 38-yard touchdown pass. Junior running back Derrick Wiley added an 11-yard touchdown run. Shaw was also a force on defense a sack and three tackles for a loss.

Junior running back Parker Day ran for a game-high 225 yards and scored on runs of 76 and 47 yards for Manasquan (3-4, 2-3). Senior Liam Grieb threw a 48-yard touchdown to junior tight end Kyle Leblanc and also hooked up with Leblanc for a two-point conversion. Senior running back Paul Krueger scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

 

Class A South

Southern 14, Lacey 10

Senior running back Pat Walker threw a halfback option pass to senior wide receiver Nick Simonelli that put the ball at the 1-yard line with 12.2 seconds left, setting up sophomore running back Joe Miele for the go-ahead score to lift the Rams (3-5, 2-4) past the Lions (1-7, 0-6) and give head coach Chuck Donohue Sr. his 100th win with the program.

Simonelli scored on a 91-yard kickoff return immediately after Lacey had taken a 7-0 lead in the first half. A Pat Davis field goal gave Lacey a 10-7 halftime lead.

 

Class B North

Colts Neck 13, Wall 0

Matt Volk made a circus catch on a 30-yard touchdown reception from his twin brother Hayden and Vinny Gargiulo returned a fumble for a touchdown on the final play of the game as the Cougars (1-7, 1-5) picked up their first victory of the season to give head coach Darian Barnes his first coaching win.

 

Neptune 28, Long Branch 21

The Scarlet Fliers (2-5, 1-5) held a 14-7 halftime lead on their way to edging the Green Wave (2-6, 1-4).

 

Class B Central

Keyport 20, Mater Dei Prep 0

Ky'Sun Pryor ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns and Desmond Underwood added 60 yards rushing and a touchdown to lead the Red Raiders (4-4, 2-2) past the Titans (1-7, 0-4).

The win likely locks up a playoff spot for Keyport in Central Jersey Group I, and is also the program's first shutout since 2012.

 

Class B South

Lakewood 52, Barnegat 14

Senior running back Amir Tyler had another huge game with four touchdowns and close to 200 yards rushing, plus an interception, as the Piners (6-1, 6-0) trounced the Bengals (1-6, 1-5) to a clinch at least a share of the division title.

Lakewood can win the division title outright with a win over Point Boro next Saturday.
