Saturday, Sept. 19

Class A North

Middletown North 40, Marlboro 14

Sophomore running back Connor Welsh ran for a 15-yard touchdown and caught touchdown pass of 7 and 47 yards from junior quarterback Donald Glenn as the Lions (2-0, 1-0) ran past the Mustangs (0-2, 0-2).

Senior running back Demetrius Redway added a 6-yard rushing touchdown. Middletown North blocked two punts which it recovered for touchdowns, including one by Jacob Dean in the second quarter.

Marlboro junior quarterback Jared Wright threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Tyler Tanen and a 6-yard score to junior fullback Ryan Cassidy.

 

Class A Central

Manasquan 28, Monmouth 14

Junior wide receiver Damaso Jamie caught three passes for 142 yards and a touchdown and also returned an interception 75 yards for a score to fuel the Warriors (1-1, 1-1) in their divisional road victory over the Falcons (1-1, 1-1).

Jamie caught a 77-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Liam Grieb in the first quarter and stepped in front of a Justin Trapp pass and returned it all the way for the go-ahead score with 15 seconds left in the first half.

Junior running back Parker Day ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. He broke a 65-yard yard touchdown in the second quarter to tie the score at 14, and put the game away with a 17-yard score in the third quarter.

Monmouth quarterback Justin Pratt threw for 185 yards and a touchdown on 8-of-14 passing. Malik Wiggins caught three passes for 109 yards and a touchdown and Ely Velez ran for a short touchdown.

 

Class B South

Lakewood 25, Pinelands 8

Zyhier Jones threw three touchdown passes and senior running pack Amir Tyler ran for a touchdown to give the Piners (2-0, 2-0) a victory over the Wildcats (0-3, 0-3) in a rare night game at Lakewood.

Jones threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jaqel Hunter and a 14-yard score to Raquan Butler in the first quarter, and added a 15-yard touchdown pass to Butler late in the second quarter. Tyler added an 87-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter for his fifth touchdown in two games.

Brennan Richardson scored on a 16-yard run and Dave Fairl ran in the 2-point conversion for Pinelands.

 

Nonconference

Keyport 27, South River 12

Desmond Underwood ran for a pair of touchdowns and Ky'Sun Pryor also scored on the ground to lead the Red Raiders (1-1) past the Rams. Chrisitan Smith kicked a pair of field goals, was 3-for-3 on extra points and also had an interception on defense for Keyport.

 

Asbury Park 20, Metuchen 15

Davon Thompson threw touchdown passes of 59 and 33 yards to Jaedon Stephens, and Charles Sanders scored on a three-yard touchdown run with just over six minutes to play as the Blue Bishops (1-1) went on the road and topped the Bulldogs to give head coach Tim Fosque his first win.

 

Shore 7, Spotswood 3

Junior quarterback Matt Pennell threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to senior Duke Russo in the second quarter and Shore's defense did the rest as the Blue Devils (2-0) topped the Chargers.
