Friday, Sept. 25

Class A North

Freehold Township 21, Howell 14

Senior quarterback Jack O'Brien threw for 225 yards and touchdowns to Anthony Lotti, Adrian Rybaltowski and Nick Galanti to lead the Patriots (1-2, 1-2) to their first victory of the season while handing the Rebels (2-1, 1-1) their first loss. The win also marks the first victory for Cory Davies as Freehold Township head coach.

O'Brien threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Rybaltowski in the first quarter to tie the score at seven, then gave the Patriots a 14-7 lead with a 30-yard scoring pass to Lott. His 22-yard touchdown pass to Galanti in the third quarter gave Freehold Township a two-score lead.

Senior defensive lineman Conor Devine had a six-yard interception return for a touchdown and senior quarterback Mark Iacobino threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Nic Rossi for Howell.

 

No. 1 Middletown South 49, Marlboro 14

Junior running back James McCarthy ran for touchdowns of 51, 21 and 3 yards a the top-ranked Eagles (3-0, 2-0) continued their dominant start by drubbing the Mustangs (0-3, 0-3).

Senior quarterback Matt Mosquera threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to junior Jeff Lewandowski and a 48-yard touchdown pass to junior Samson Dube, and also went 5-for-5 on extra points. Senior defensive back Tom Coffey had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown and junior defensive back Maxx Imsho had a 6-yard interception return for a touchdown.

 

Class A Central

Raritan 40, Matawan 3

Senior Derek Ernst scored on a 98-yard rumble return, a 47-yard rushing touchdown and also caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Marc Carnivale as the Rockets (2-0, 2-0) unloaded on the Huskies in a crucial and impressive divisional victory.

Carnivale also threw touchdown passes of 44 and 11 yards to Mason Sheehan. Nick Pasquin added a 35-yard rushing touchdown.

Adam Elliot kicked a field goal for Matawan, which fell to 0-3.

 

Class A South

No. 3 Jackson Memorial 42, Southern 0

Junior quarterback Dan Barker threw four touchdown passes to lead the Jaguars (3-0, 2-0) past the Rams (1-3, 1-2). Junior linebacker Zack Lubertazzi returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and sophomore Justin Martin-Culet scored on a short touchdown run.

Barker had a 5-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Towns, a 14-yard score to Kyle Lona, a 2-yard flip to Vinny Lee and a 22-yard touchdown pass to senior Kyle Johnson. Lee ran for 105 yards and Jackson's defense held Southern to just 35 yards of offense.

 

Toms River North 55, Toms River South 20

Junior quarterback Mike Husni had a huge game with 228 yards passing and three touchdowns and 61 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Mariners (2-1, 2-1) rebounded with a victory over the Indians (2-1, 1-1) in "The Civil War".

Toms River North was coming off a 52-20 loss to Brick Memorial in Week Two.

Husni threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Bryce Watts and touchdowns of 44 and 14 yards to wide receiver Darrion Carrington. He ran for a 5-yard score in the first quarter and an 18-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Senior Asante Moorer ran for a 3-yard score. Pete Laquaglia added a 22-yard fumble return for a touchdown and Anthony Storino also returned a fumble 29 yards for a touchdown. Carrington finished with five receptions for 150 yards.

Tyler Sosa caught a 19-yard touchdown from T.J. Scoured and also caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Jaden for Toms River South. Kosh scored on an 11-yard run. Dashaun Alexander ran for a game-high 160 yards on 22 carries.

 

Class B North

No. 2 Red Bank Catholic 35, Neptune 0

Senior running back Mike Wilen ran for touchdowns of 25 and 6 yards, and also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Eddie Hahn, while the Red Bank Catholic (3-0, 2-0) defense pitched its second shutout of the season in blanking the Scarlet Fliers (0-3, 0-2).

Senior Liam McArdle scored on an 8-yard run in the first quarter and Hahn also had an 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

 

Red Bank 16, No. 7 Ocean 6

The Bucs pulled off a huge win over the Spartans (2-1, 2-1) on the road to improve to 3-0 for the first time in over a decade.

Senior quarterback Jack Navitsky threw for 188 yards and a touchdown, an 88-yard scoring play to Matt Reardon in the third quarter, and the Bucs (3-0, 3-0) defense stymied a red-hot Ocean offense to earn the monumental victory. Chris Outerbridge returned a fumble 28 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and Jack O'Connor kicked a 32-yard field goal.

Red Bank's defense held Ocean running back Tyler Thompson to 65 yards rushing. Thompson had ran for 397 yards and seven touchdowns over the Spartan's first two games.

 

Wall 24, Long Branch 14

Bill Schneider and Chevesee Covin scored on touchdown runs, R.J. Janeczek returned a fumble for a touchdown and Nick Maciejewski kicked a field goal to lead the Crimson Knights (1-2, 1-2) past the Green Wave (1-2, 1-1) and into the win column.

Schneider had a 35-yard touchdown run in the second quarter on a fake punt and Covin ran for a 2-yard score in the third quarter. Maciejewski's 26-yard field goal in the second quarter gave Wall a 10-0 lead, and Janeczek's 15-yard fumble return for a touchdown put the Knights up 24-7 in the fourth quarter.

Brandon Lane caught a 74-yard touchdown pass from Keith Cooper and Brandon Williams hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Kamar Mimes for Long Branch.

 

Class B Central

Asbury Park 42, Mater Dei Prep 19

Senior Jaedon Stephens caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Davon Thompson, who also ran for a touchdown, to lead the Blue Bishops (2-1, 1-1) to a victory over the Seraphs (2-1, 1-1).

Stephens caught touchdown passes of 8, 20 and 48 yards from Thompson and finished with four receptions for 104 yards. Thompson also ran for a 1-yard score. Charles Sanders ran for 121 yards on 15 carries, including a 25-yard touchdown run.

Sophomore quarterback Kyle Devaney threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns for Mater Dei Prep, while wide receiver Eddie Lewis caught 7 passes for 95 yards. John Lubintus had a 69-yard touchdown run and finished with 97 yards. Justice George caught a 48-yard touchdown pass and Juwan Mitchell caught a 4-yard touchdown pass.

 

Class B South

Jackson Liberty 20, Barnegat 17

Braden Yorke kicked a game-winning 20-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter as the Lions (2-1, 2-0) rallied from a 17-3 deficit to stun the Bengals (1-2, 1-2).

Jerald Goodman started the fourth-quarter comeback for Jackson Liberty with a 15-yard fumble return touchdown, and a 10-yard touchdown run by Brad McKelvey tied the score at 17. Yorke also had another short field goal. Emmanuel Florez intercepted a pair of passes for Liberty, including one on Barnegat's final drive to clinch the victory.

Barnegat had taken a 17-3 lead on a 50-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Joe Monaco to senior wide receiver Nick Camarato. Junior kicker Connor Lustenberger kicked a 30-yard field goal to give the Bengals a 10-3 lead in the third quarter and Camarato also had a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first half.

 

Lakewood 20, Manchester 13

Senior running back Amir Tyler ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries to lead the Piners (3-0, 3-0) to victory against the Hawks (0-3, 0-3).

Tyler had a 57-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and then scored on a 16-yard run in the fourth quarter that extended Lakewood's lead to seven points. Sophomore quarterback Zyheir Jones ran for a 1-yard score and finished with 70 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Jalen Glenn and Khari Jenkins had rushing touchdowns for Manchester. Glenn scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter and Jenkins had a 28-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

 

Nondivisional

No. 4 St. John Vianney 49, Central 6

Senior quarterback Anthony Brown threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns on 9 of 15 passing, and also ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries as the Lancers (3-0) overwhelmed the Golden Eagles (2-2).

Brown tossed touchdowns of 16 and 12 yards to senior Khalil Haskins and also connected with senior Marcque Ellington for a 13-yard score. Brown ran for a 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter and added a 19-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Junior running back Chris Chukwuneke ran for a game-high 111 yards on 13 carries and scored on runs of 18 and 27 yards.

Senior quarterback Mike Miserendino ran for a 3-yard touchdown for Central.

 

Nonconference

No. 8 Manalapan 47, Sayreville 27

Sophomore running back Chris Maksimik ran for three touchdowns, senior running back Marcus Salinas ran for 151 yards and a touchdown and sophomore Naim Mayfield scored a rushing touchdown and returned a punt for a touchdown to power the Braves (3-0) past the Bombers (2-1). T.J. Orrico added an 83-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Maksimik had just four carries, but scored on runs of 1, 2 and 2 yards. Mayfield had a 60-yard punt return touchdown in the first quarter and a 6-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Salinas had a 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

 

Point Boro 14, Bishop Ahr 6

Senior fullback Nate Husak ran for a 40-yard touchdown and senior running back Devin Connelly scored on a 33-yard touchdown run as the Panthers (3-0) toppled the Trojans (0-3).

 

Woodbridge 41, Colts Neck 13
