A rare broadcast doubleheader highlights the first fall weekend of the high school football season as teams from Toms River and Brick take center stage. Brick Memorial, among the shore’s most consistent programs comes into Detweiler Stadium tonight looking for its first win of the season against a South Indians team that found success after making a host of offensive changes last week. Led by quarterback Grant McKelvey and running back Tony Thorpe the Mustangs hope week three is a charm after facing powerful Brick and Toms River North in their first two games. TR South moved explosive Nykie Lofton into the quarterback spot after they were shut out in their season opener and things turned around in a rout of Toms River East last week. The Indians strength appears to be defense, anchored by tackle Teddy Suarez and linebacker Todd Stueber. Tonight’s game will be broadcast live on 1160 & 1310AM as well as shoresportsnetwork.com.

Tomorrow night at Gernerd Field two teams ranked among the top five in the T&T Coast Top Ten clash in a key Class A South matchup as the explosive North Mariners host the Brick Green Dragons. North has more weapons than any team in the shore including quarterback Mike Husni, running back Parker Day and receivers Darrion Carrington and Bryce Watts. Brick, with impressive wins over Brick Memorial and Jackson Memorial features a top offensive threat in Ja’Sir Taylor, solid quarterback play from Anthony Costanza and defensive stalwarts Jack Finelli and Dean Helstowski. We will also broadcast this game on 1160/1310AM and it should tell us a lot about both teams.
