Class A South

Toms River North 24, Southern 14

Sophomore quarterback Mike Husni ran for a pair of 1-yard touchdowns and threw a 26-yard touchdown to sophomore wideout Bryce Watts to help the Mariners (5-2, 4-2) pick up a comeback win over the host Rams (3-3, 2-3). Husni threw for 174 yards and ran for 88 in the win, and junior tailback Asante Moorer had 96 yards rushing and a touchdown and also had 68 yards receiving.

Quarterback Jon Bleichner threw a 24-yard touchdown to running back Pat Walker on a screen pass and also threw a nine-yard touchdown to Dom Vandebrook that gave Southern a 14-6 lead in the third quarter before the Mariners scored 18 unanswered points. Bleichner finished with a a school-record 358 yards passing in the loss, and Vandebrook had eight catches for 181 yards.

Class B North

Neptune 41, Wall 0 

Senior O'Shane Curate had a big afternoon to lead the Scarlet Fliers' (4-2, 4-1) rout of the Crimson Knights (1-6, 0-5) with a 44-yard touchdown catch and an interception return for a touchdown to highlight a standout defensive game.

Senior quarterback Royal Moore also ran for a pair of touchdowns in addition to throwing the one to Curate, and senior running backs Jaree Parrish and Savior King each added a touchdown run. The defense posted its first shutout since last year's season opener against Raritan.

Nondivisional

No. 7 Brick 45, Colts Neck 7

Senior quarterback Carmen Sclafani threw three touchdown passes and senior running back Ray Fattaruso scored three times as the Green Dragons (6-1) routed the Cougars (0-7) in a rematch of last year's Central Jersey Group IV final.

Fattaruso ran for a pair of touchdowns and senior wideout Ja'Quez Johnson had one touchdown receiving and another one on an interception return in the win.

Lacey 28, Jackson Liberty 0

Senior quarterback Conor Davies threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and the defense posted its first shutout since 2011 as the Lions (1-6) ended an 11-game losing streak and put head coach Lou Vircillo alone in second place all-time in career wins in Shore Conference history with 264 by beating the Lions (4-3).

Davies threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to wideout Sean Cahalane and a 4-yard touchdown passing to running back Connor Wilson while also running for a 3-yard score. Wilson also had a 4-yard touchdown run in the win. The defense held the Lions to 141 total yards.

Vircillo had been tied with the late Vic Kubu of Middletown North and Manasquan with 263 wins since last season before ending the losing streak. He is now alone in second behind retired Brick legend Warren Wolf, whose 364 career wins are second all-time in New Jersey.

No. 6 Freehold 28, Toms River East 7

Senior tailback Josh Dixon ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns as the Colonials (7-0) remained unbeaten by topping the winless Raiders (0-7).

Junior Jake Curry also had a 70-yard touchdown run in the win. Freshman Ashante Worthy had a pair of sacks and linebacker Morgan Quinones added an interception for Freehold.

Nonconference

Spotswood 27, Keyport 0 

The Red Raiders (1-6) were blanked by the Chargers (4-3) in a nonconference game.

Middlesex 26, Keansburg 0 

The Titans (1-6) fell to the Blue Jays (6-1) in nonconference action.

Mater Dei Prep 43, Metuchen 13

Senior quarterback Christian Palmer ran for 134 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries and also went 5-for-10 passing for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Seraphs (5-2) past the Bulldogs (4-2).

Sophomore wideout Eddie Lewis had 3 catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns and senior Tysaun White ran for 103 yards and a touchdown on only six carries in the win.

East Brunswick 35, Marlboro 12

Mo Omar had a touchdown run and Dewann McAllister had a touchdown catch as the Mustangs (0-7) fell to the Bears (3-3).
