Class A Central
Matawan 28, Monmouth 7
Senior wide receiver Justin Ferrara caught touchdown passes of 45 and 54 yards and also had two long catches that set up touchdowns as the Huskies (2-2, 2-2) won their second straight by scoring 21 unanswered points to top the Falcons (1-3, 1-3).
Junior Dejohn Rogers added a 10-yard touchdown catch and also had an interception and a fumble recovery on defense. Senior Devon Spann chipped in with a 2-yard touchdown run, and Ferrara also had an interception on defense.
Senior Isaiah Searight had a 12-yard touchdown catch from Jimmy Green in the loss for Monmouth.
Class A South
No. 10 Brick Memorial 27, Toms River East 7
Quarterback Tim Santiago and fullback Connor Owen combined for over 250 yards rushing and all four touchdowns to help the Mustangs (3-1, 3-1) win their third straight game by beating the Raiders (0-4, 0-4).
Dylan Savulich threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Dan Gilligan in the loss for Toms River East.
Class B South
Jackson Liberty 9, Lakewood 8
The Lions (2-2, 2-1) upset the Piners (3-1, 3-1) as junior quarterback Ryan Van Wickle threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Brett Ribellino with 8:57 left in the third quarter and then Jackson Liberty added a crucial safety a minute later before holding on for the win.
Chapelle Cook ran for a 1-yard score and threw a two-point conversion to Datrell Reed with 9:09 left in the game for Lakewood, but the Lions' defense came up with a stop on fourth down at its own 35 in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
Barnegat 35, Donovan Catholic 7
Five different players scored as the Bengals (3-1, 3-1) won their second straight game by rolling past the Griffins (1-3, 1-2).
Senior Manny Bowen ran for a 10-yard touchdown and also had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery at linebacker. Tyler McGuinness added a 2-yard touchdown run, Kyle Morris had a 65-yard fumble return, Paul Wickwire had a 58-yard touchdown run, and Cinjun Erskine threw a touchdown pass to Ricky Gerena in the win.
Dezmund Hunter ran for an 11-yard score in the loss for Donovan Catholic.
Central 26, Pinelands 12
Sophomore running back Mike Bickford rolled up a career-high 228 yards rushing and scored all four touchdowns to help the Golden Eagles (2-2, 2-1) pick up a win over the Wildcats (0-4, 0-4).
Pt. Boro 34, Manchester 0
Quarterback Jack Fitzsimmons ran for two scores and threw a pair of touchdown passes to help the Panthers (3-1, 3-0) take sole possession of first place in the division by routing the Hawks (0-4, 0-4) as they rolled up 300 yards of total offense, including 233 on the ground.
Fitzsimmons had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs and also threw a 25-yard touchdown to sophomore wideout Hayden Frey and hit Dan Larson for a 15-yard score. Devin Connelly added a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown in the win. The defense posted its first shutout since 2011.
Nonconference
Dunellen 16, Shore 7
A 30-yard touchdown run by Alex Johnson in the second quarter gave the Blue Devils (3-1) the lead, but the Destroyers (3-1) scored twice in the final 1:28 to hand Shore its first loss.
Robert Young ran for a 17-yard touchdown and then Dunellen executed a 2-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead with 1:28 to go. David Johnson then returned an interception for a touchdown with 1:04 left to seal the win.
Point Beach 9, Spotswood 6
Senior quarterback Jake Fioretti threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to senior fullback Joe Wegrzyniak with 1:01 left in the game to give the Garnet Gulls (3-1) a comeback win over the Chargers (2-2).
Freshman Sean Gould booted a 23-yard field goal in the first quarter to give Point Beach a 3-0 lead before Spotswood scored to take a 6-3 lead with 11:29 left in the game. After Point Beach scored to go ahead, Kent Napoliello had a game-sealing interception for the Garnet Gulls.
Junior defensive lineman Tanner Smith led the defense with 5 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery.
