No. 7 Toms River North 3, Lacey 0

Senior Joey Hertgen scored a goal and assisted another by senior Sean Crabb to help lead the Mariners (1-1, 1-0) to a win over the Lions (1-1, 0-1). Crabb's goal opened the scoring and after Hertgen scored off a pass from senior Kyle Burke to give Toms River North a 2-0 lead, Senior Raz Chabra capped the scoring on a pass from junior Dante Shenkin to give the Mariners a 3-0 lead by halftime.

 

Class B South

Jackson Liberty 1, Donovan Catholic 1 (Shortened game due to lightning)

Jackson Liberty senior Brandon Pirog and Donovan Catholic junior Justin Alves each scored a goal and the Lions (0-0-1, 0-0-1) and Griffins (0-0-1, 0-0-1) settled for a draw after the game was called due to lightning during the second half.

Pirog's goal came just one minute before the game was called in the 46th minute. Junior Ryan Acosta set up Alves' goal in the 31st minute.

 

Non-Division

Central 0, Toms River East 0

The Golden Eagles and Raiders settled for a tie in a game shortened due to lightning in the second half.

No. 10 Long Branch 3, Asbury Park 1

Sophomore Venancio Fernandes scored two of Long Branch's three goals in the last eight minutes, which propelled the Green Wave (1-1) to a come-from-behind win over the Blue Bishops (0-1).

Fernandes scored the tying goal on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and Hernan Acevedo scored the go-ahead goal in the 75th. Fernandes capped the scoring with two minutes left, his third goal in two games to open the year.

Asbury Park sophomore Davensky Joinvillmar gave the Blue Bishops the lead with a penalty kick in the 35th minute.

Southern at Manchester - PPD, TBD

Manasquan 5, Point Beach 4

Junior Dan Del Guercio scored two goals and senior Beau Bradley added a goal and two assists as the Warriors (1-1) hung on to beat the Garnet Gulls (0-1).

Bradley scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute and assisted goals by senior Kevin Dempsey in the 28th and Del Guercio in the 35th to stake Manasquan to a 3-1 lead. After Point Beach cut the lead to 3-2 prior to halftime on a penalty kick by freshman Aris Papoutsakis, Del Guercio pushed the lead to 4-2 with a goal three minutes into the second half off a pass from junior Tolga Guven.

Senior Thomas McGill capped the Manasquan scoring in the 60th minute off a set-up from Dempsey.

Papoutsakis and junior Connor Prima each scored in the final 15 minutes, with Prima scoring in the 70th to pull Point Beach within a goal. Papoutsakis also assisted a goal by sophomore Danny Savage that tied the game at 1 in the 13th minute.

Ranney 2, Pinelands 1 (OT)

Freshman Ao Odulami scored the golden goal in the 16th minute of overtime and the Panthers (1-0) won their season opener against the Wildcats (0-1) on the road, the first career victory for coach Anthony Vazquez. Junior Shane Keenan scored the equalizer in the 51st minute off a pass from junior Ian Dobrzynski, who also assisted the winning goal as well.

Junior Corey Cusack gave Pinelands a 1-0 lead off an asssist from junior Matt O'Connell in the 34th minute.
