Freehold 2, Middletown South 0

Sophomore Andy Rizo scored in the 38th minute to break a scoreless tie and Roberto Albarran added a goal in the 54th to pace the Colonials (1-3-1, 1-3-0) past the Eagles (1-5, 1-3) for their first win of the season.

No. 2 Freehold Twp. 3, No. 4 CBA 1

Senior Tim O'Donnell scored the go-ahead goal in the 58th minute off a through from Jason Czajkowski and Czajowski added an insurance goal in the 73rd to give the Patriots (4-0, 4-0) a win over the Colts (2-3, 2-3), their fourth straight win to open the season and CBA's third straight loss since starting 2-0.

CBA tied the game in the 54th on a close-range goal by Matt Thorsheim off a pass by John Frycz. O'Donnell gave the Patriots the lead 4:20 later with a shot to the lower far left side netting and Czajkowski headed in a Mike Maltese cross to cap the scoring.

Chase Berkowitz gave Freehold Township a 1-0 lead with a 30-yard shot that dropped into the net over the reach of CBA goalkeeper David Krall with six seconds left in the first half. Krall made five first-half saves, including one on a breakaway by O'Donnell.

Howell 1, Middletown North 1

Howell's Tyler DiGiovanni and Middletown North's Randy Azzam traded goals three minutes apart between the 30th and 33rd minutes and the Rebels (2-2-1, 2-1-1) and Lions (0-3-2, 0-2-2) played to a draw. Howell played a man down for 70 minutes after a first-half red card.

 

Class A Central

Matawan 2, Raritan 1

Senior Alex Cella scored two goals late in the first half and the Huskies (3-1, 2-1) held on to beat the Rockets (1-3-1, 0-3-0) for their third win in four games to open the season. Cell scored off a pass from Abisai Gutierrez to open the scoring in the 35th minute and converted a penalty kick in the 37th to put Matawan ahead, 2-0.

Quinton Bivians scored 10 seconds before halftime to cut Matawan's lead in half, but the Rockets could not draw closer.

St. John Vianney at Rumson-Fair Haven - PPD, TBD

Holmdel 2, Manasquan 0

Brendan Wall scored and assisted a goal by Rohan Ghandi that opened the scoring in the 18th minute as the Hornets (3-2, 3-0) topped the Warriors (3-2-1, 0-1-1). Michael Carranante earned his first save in goal for Holmdel while filling in for injured starter Tyler Marchiano.

 

Class A South

Lacey 2, Southern 1

Owen Hope scored the equalizer in the 70th minute and assisted Andrew Strometz's game-winner in the 78th to give the Lions (2-3, 1-2) a win over the Rams (2-3, 0-3). Gavin Dougherty scored in the 37th minute to give Southern a 1-0 lead.

 

Class B North

No. 5 Long Branch 5, Neptune 1

Guilherme De Novaes and freshman Juan Carlos Merino each scored two goals and the Green Wave (4-1, 1-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season Tuesday against Colts Neck by beating the Scarlet Fliers (1-4-1, 0-3-0). Manny Camacho scored the other Long Branch goal, while Tyler Schembri scored to put Neptune on the board.

Ocean 3, No. 9 Red Bank 0

The Spartans (3-2, 3-0) scored three goals in the first 15 minutes and held firm in the back to shut out the Bucs (3-1, 2-1), handing Red Bank their first loss of the season. Joe Abrams, Marlhens Nasanes and Wadneson Alexis all found the back of the net for Ocean, which has won two straight since the return of Alexis from a knee injury.

Colts Neck 2, Red Bank Catholic 1

Colton LaLima headed in a Kevin Murch free kick and Mick Lee hammered the ball into the net out of a scrum following a corner kick and the Cougars (3-2, 2-1) rallied for two second-half goals to beat the Caseys (0-2, 0-2) and win their third straight.

Chris Cesario gave Red Bank Catholic a 1-0 lead with a goal in the fifth minute of a pass from Kevin Davey.

 

Class B Central

Shore 6, Henry Hudson 1

J.T. Kessler scored two goals in the first four minutes and Dante and Lukas Montesinos followed with goals before the 10-minute mark as the Blue Devils (3-1, 2-0) stormed past the Admirals (0-2, 0-2). Danny Welsh and Matt Dutra also added a first-half goal each for Shore, which did all of its scoring in the first half.

Dante Montesinos also had two assists while Kessler added an assist to go with his two goals. Matt Young scored Henry Hudson's goal on a penalty kick in the 46th minute.
