No. 2 Marlboro 3, No. 1 CBA 1

P.J. Ringel scored two goals in the first half and Josh Grun headed in a second-half insurance goal to lead the Mustangs (14-1-1, 12-1-1) to a win over the nationally ranked and previously unbeaten Colts  (15-1, 12-1).

Ringel headed in a throw-in by Ryan LaRocca in the fourth minute and later muscled past the last defender after collecting a pass from Jaden Strumaier before punching a shot past CBA keeper Aeden Boriotti in the 22nd.

CBA cut its deficit in half in the 29th minute when Joe Lozowski buried a 12-yard strike after a crafty pass from Matt Thorsheim.

Marlboro got its insurance goal in the 64th when Grun flicked a Steven Karp free kick to the far right side netting.

CBA entered the game on a 15-game winning streak and was ranked No. 3 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer. The Colts were awarded No. 1 seed in the Shore Conference Tournament on Monday and can still win the Class A North championship by defeating Neptune on Thursday. Marlboro is the No. 2 seed in the tournament, which begins on Thursday.

James La Spina scored his first two varsity goals and the Braves handled the Colonials to cap their Class A North season. Jon DiBlasi and Gavin Lebright also scored their first varsity goals, while Rocky Garretson and D'Angelo Reyes each scored a goal apiece.
