Each week during the 2022 soccer season, Shore Sports Network will recognize some of the top performers in the Shore Conference over the calendar week and give the fans of the Shore Conference to vote for the overall winner for the Player of the Week. There will be eight candidates, including six Players of the Week from each of the Shore Conference divisions as well as two wild cards.

This week's candidates were selected based on their performances from Monday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 9. Read about the exploits of the eight candidates and vote for the best of the best to win the latest Player of the Week competition of the 2022 season.

Vote once per hour until the poll closes on Thursday at 10 p.m. The winner will be announced on Friday and awarded a $25 gift card to Surf Taco.

Class A North Player of the Week

Nick Spisak, Howell

It was a huge week for Howell and a huge week for the Rebels’ top scorer. Spisak scored in all three Rebels wins last week, including a two-goal game in a win over Middletown South and a golden goal in a win over Freehold Township that clinched Howell the Class A North public division championship. The Rebels senior capped the week with a goal in a 3-1 win over West Essex.

Class A North Honorable Mention: Dylan Millevoi, CBA; Miles Gallagher, CBA; Shawn McCann, Middletown South; Jack D’Eletto, CBA; Noah Jones, Freehold Twp.; J.P. Candela, Howell; Wyatt Oechsner, Marlboro; Will Thygeson, CBA

Class A Central Player of the Week

Nick Damiano, Wall

Wall got impact performances from several players this past week, but Damiano has been the scoring standout – both this week and throughout the season. Damiano posted five goals and an assist in three Wall wins, including two multi-goal performances. Damiano scored twice in Wall’s wild, 4-3 win over Rumson-Fair Haven, then fired up a hat trick in a shutout victory over Wall. The junior also added an assist in a 4-2 win over South Brunswick on Saturday.

Class A Central Honorable Mention: Padraig Flynn, Rumson-Fair Haven; Boden Pepe, Wall; Ronan Hogg, Rumson-Fair Haven; Alec Pentikis, Rumson-Fair Haven; Lucas Hutnik, Raritan; David Weiner, Holmdel; Dan Abrams, Ocean; Cooper Attaway, Shore; Phil Barbosa, Monmouth

Class A South Player of the Week

Kajus Matazinskas, Toms River East

The Raiders got back in the Class A South division title race this week with wins over Brick and Southern and can win a share of the division championship by beating Toms River South in the final division game. Matazinskas was again the Toms River East star, racking up a hat trick in a rout of Brick before scoring twice in a 3-1 win over a Southern side that entered the Saturday match on a six-game winning streak.

Class A South Honorable Mention: Aidan Antonio, Southern; Aidan Donnelly, Southern; Tom McChesney, Jackson Memorial; Kenny Caruso, Toms River South; Justin Villamizer, Toms River South; Josh Boyle, Brick; Jordan Benzon, Central; Ryan DiCillo, Central; John Holden, Southern; Robbie Carroll, Brick Memorial; Stephen Csatari, Jackson Memorial; Luke Montanile, Toms River North

Class B North Player of the Week

Jeff DeCarvalho, Colts Neck

Classmates Jairo Chira and Kyle Moore scored more goals this week – as has been the case for the two seniors during their huge statistical seasons – but DeCarvalho scored Colts Neck’s timeliest goals during the week. He scored to break a 1-1 tie in a 7-1 win over Red Bank, which answered Red Bank’s equalizer in a must-win game. DeCarvalho did the same in a B North championship-clinching win over Ocean on Saturday, scoring a beautiful go-ahead goal to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead just 51 seconds after Ocean tied the game.

Class B North Honorable Mention: Christian Gonzalez, Manasquan; Kervins Lafortune, Neptune; Jairo Chira, Colts Neck; Kyle Moore, Colts Neck; Matt Karolak, Manasquan

Class B Central Player of the Week

Colin Hutton, Point Beach

Barnegat entered Thursday’s game against Point Beach needing a win to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament and the Garnet Gulls broke the Bengals’ hearts. Point Beach pulled out a 1-0 victory over Barnegat, with Hutton delivering the deciding goal in that win.

Class B Central Honorable Mention: Diego Nieves, St. Rose; Josh Boyan, Point Beach

Class B South Player of the Week

Connor Yurgel, Jackson Liberty

Lakewood has not been an easy opponent for any team in Class B South and in order to keep its hopes of a division championship alive, Jackson Liberty had to beat the Piners. The Lions came through thanks to Yurgel, who scored both goals in his team’s 2-0 win. With a win over Manchester at the end of the week, Jackson Liberty would clinch a share of the Class B South title, which would be the first division title in program history.

Class B South Honorable Mention: Owen Clearwaters, Point Boro; Matt Fletcher, Donovan Catholic; Leo Chamorro, Barnegat; Muberaq Aderogba, Manchester

Wild Cards

Ronan Hogg, Rumson-Fair Haven

With a division title on the line, Rumson entered halftime at Raritan trailing the Rockets, 2-1. That’s when Hogg took over. The sophomore scored two goals and assisted two more to account for all four of his team’s second-half goals in a 5-2 victory over Raritan. The win clinched the Bulldogs a three-way share of the division title with Holmdel and Wall.

Kervins Lafortune, Neptune

Neptune put forth another strong showing this week with wins over Matawan and Ewing and a competitive draw vs. Long Branch. Lafortune scored in all of them, putting up a goal and an assist vs. Matawan, a goal and two assists vs. Ewing and a goal in the tie vs. Long Branch.
