Middletown South 2, Freehold Boro 1

Senior George Costidis scored two goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half and the Eagles (1-8, 1-7) hung on to beat the Colonials (4-6-1, 2-6-1) for their first win of the season. Freehold Boro grabbed a 1-0 lead on a fifth-minute own goal initiated by Andy Rizo.

Middletown North 4, Howell 1

Sophomore Ryan Binn and senior Anthony Chiaino each scored a first-half goal and junior Elliot De La Rosa and senior Dan Cavanagh each added a goal in the second half to help the Lions (4-5, 4-5) take down the Rebels (3-6-1, 3-6-1).

Brandon Downey scored in the 48th minute to pull Howell within 2-1.

No. 1 CBA 1, No. 3 Freehold Twp. 0

Junior Ryan Nigro converted a penalty kick with 22 seconds left in the first half and the Colts (9-2, 8-1) made it stand up in a win over the Patriots (5-2-2, 5-2-1). Senior Matt Thorsheim drew a trip in the penalty box with the first-half clock winding down and Nigro stepped up to drill the penalty shot to the lower left.

Junior goalkeeper Aedan Boriotti saved four shots to earn his seventh shutout of the season.

No. 5 Manalapan 2, No. 9 Marlboro 1

Senior Pio Schiano-Lamriello scored with six minutes left in the first half and assisted the game-winning by senior Mitchel Volis in the 44th to help the Braves (7-2, 7-2) top the Mustangs (4-4-1, 3-4-1) for their fifth straight win.

Marlboro tied the game in the 42nd minute on goal by Ryan LaRocca, assisted by Steve Karp. Volis gave Manalapan the lead right back within the next two minutes.

 

Class A Central

No. 4 Rumson-Fair Haven 4, St. John Vianney 0

Senior Jamie Martin scored two goals and assisted another as the Bulldogs (11-0, 9-0) shutout the Lancers (4-7, 3-6) for their 11th straight win to start the season. With the win, plus Manasquan's draw against Holmdel, Rumson clinches the outright Class A Central title, it's second division crown in three years.

Junior Nick Calabrese added a goal and sophomore Anthony Paolantonio capped the scoring with his first varsity goal.

Raritan 1, Matawan 1

Nick Amodeo scored the game-tying goal with 1:19 left to send the game to overtime and the Rockets (3-5-4, 1-4-4) salvaged a draw with the Huskies (4-3-3, 2-3-3). Keleb Mehari scored on a Griffin Heyward assist to give Matawan a 1-0 lead in the first half.

 

Class B North

No. 8 Colts Neck 1, Red Bank Catholic 0

Dean Raynor scored the lone goal of the game and the Cougars (6-3-1, 4-3-0) held on to beat the Caseys (0-10-1, 0-7-1).

Neptune 3, Long Branch 1

Freshman Wilby Alfred and seniors Tyler Schembri and Danny Fonrose each scored a goal and the Scarlet Fliers (7-6, 3-5) beat the Green Wave (5-4-1, 3-2-1) for their fourth straight win. Sophomore Dylan Schembri also added two assists and senior Vinnie Tremarco set up Alfred's goal to open the scoring.

Sophomore Juan Carlos Merino accounted for the lone Long Branch goal.

No. 7 Ocean 5, Red Bank 0

Senior Marlhens Nasanes scored two goals and assisted a header by senior Luis Araya that opened the scoring in the 10th minute as the Spartans (8-2, 7-1) rolled to a win over the Bucs (2-7-1, 1-6-1). Freshman James Schutz found classmate Santino Harding for the third goal 1:41 into the second half and junior Cosimo Franze capped the scoring with a goal in the 79th.
