Class A Central

Rumson-Fair Haven 4, Monmouth 1

Senior Dean Criscitiello scored a pair of goals and senior Matt Maisto followed up his hat trick on Tuesday with another goal Thursday to help the Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0) beat the Falcons (2-1, 1-1) for their third straight win to open the season.

Sophomore Owen Greengrove added a goal in the second half and also assisted Maisto's goal in the eighth minute that opened the scoring.

Sean O'Brien scored the lone goal for Monmouth.

St. John Vianney 5, Raritan 1

Junior Jack McLafferty scored two goals in his first game of the season and the Lancers (1-2, 1-1) rolled to a win over the Rockets (1-1, 0-1). Junior John Caracappa ripped a 25-yard free kick into the net for a goal in the 10th minute, which came between goals by McLafferty in minutes seven and 28.

Senior Marc Urbealis scored in the 35th minute and senior David Kamenar capped the scoring in the 48th on the second of two assists by junior Kyle Tuschmann.

Senior Chris Medina converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute to breakup the shutout.

Matawan 1, No. 8 Holmdel 0

Senior Bronson Dhume scored the game's lone goal in the 43rd minute and the Huskies (2-0, 1-0) took down the Hornets (1-1, 0-1) to begin their Class A Central championship defense.

 

Class A South

Brick Memorial at Southern - PPD, Friday, 4 p.m.

 

Class B North

No. 3 Ocean 6, Red Bank Catholic 1

Senior Joe Abrams headed in two goals and the Spartans (2-0, 1-0) coasted to their second straight decisive victory to open the season by beating the Caseys (0-1, 0-1). Ocean has outscored its two opponents - Brick and RBC - by a combined margin of 15-1.

Junior Ian Dwyer scored from 16 yards out off the first of two assists by senir Marlhens Nasanes to open the scoring in the 11th minute. Senior Ryan Wells followed with a 30-yard direct kick in the 23rd and Abrams scored the first of his two goals - a header off a corner kick by junior Cozimo Franze - to cap the first-half scoring three minutes later.

Junior Jordan Ornowski redirected a cross by Nasanes for the fourth Spartans goal in the 46th minute and Abrams headed in a cross by senior Tom Amato to put Ocean ahead 5-0 in the 62nd.

After Sammy Robertson gave Red Bank Catholic its first goal in the 69th, Nasanes sliced through the defense for the final goal in the 78th minute.

Red Bank 2, Neptune 1

Junior Chris Fuentes scored twice in the final three minutes and the Bucs (1-1, 1-0) rallied to beat the Scarlet Fliers (1-2, 0-1) in the B North opener for both teams. Junior Max Lane set up Fuentes for the equalizer in the 77th minute and Fuentes scored the winner with 59 seconds left off a pass from senior Jacob Curtis.

Junior Sebastian Cardinas broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 63rd minute to give Neptune a 1-0 lead.

Wall 1, Colts Neck 0

Senior Reilly Barcas scored off an indirect kick by senior Zach Ferry just before halftime and the Crimson Knights (1-0, 1-0) edged the Cougars (1-1, 0-1) in their 2015 opener. Junior goalkeeper Nolan Cloney earned the shutout in goal.

 

Class B South

Point Boro 3, Barnegat 1

Senior Sam Monaco scored two first-half goals and senior Mason Pitts added another as the Panthers (2-0, 1-0) topped the Bengals (0-2, 0-1) for their second straight win to open the season.

Senior Kyle Heidel scored the lone Barnegat goal, which came in the second half.
