LONG BRANCH - Stiviny Silva carved out a role as a secondary scorer last year on the Long Branch boys soccer team and complemented leading scorers Venancio Fernandes and Renan Azevedo by scoring seven goals.

On Saturday against unbeaten Southern Regional, in Long Branch's fifth game of the season, Silva again reached the seven-goal mark and did so in the most dramatic of fashions.

Silva scored the game-tying penalty kick in regulation and scored the golden goal a minute into overtime to help the Green Wave hand the Rams their first loss of the season.

With his sixth and seventh goals of the season, Silva is the early Shore Conference goals leader and has already matched his output from a year ago.

Southern grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Dylan Blauvelt penalty kick early in the second half before the Green Wave earned a penalty of its own, which Silva finished in the 67th minute.

On the game-winning goal, Silva was initially denied by Southern keeper Braden Dugan, but follow his own miss to win the game.

Long Branch was coming off a loss to Christian Brothers Academy in which the Green Wave tied the Colts early in the second half before ultimately conceding the winning goal.
