Justin Zapata converted a pentalty kick in te 63rd minute an the Cardainals edged the Mariners on opening day in Toms River.

Point Boro 3, North Brunswick 0

Junior Mason Remondelli scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Panthers blanked the Raiders to open the season. Senior Sam Monaco added a goal and an assist and Nick DeCurtis added a goal in the win. Tyler Haines earned the shutotut with a clean sheet for Point Boro.

East Brunswick 4, Donovan Catholic 2

Jon Michael Pereira and junior Matt Dalton each scored a goal but the Bears handled the Griffens at the GMC Central Jersey Shootout.

 

Friday, Sept. 4

Class A Central

Monmouth 2, St. John Vianney 1 (OT)

Sophomore Joel Burgos scored the golden goal in the eighth minute of overtime off a set-up by senior Ross Spadevecchia and the Falcons took down the Lancers for an opening-day win. Freshman Brian Waltsak scored his first varsity goal for Monmouth's first goal of the game.

Lacey 5, Barnegat 0

Senior Robert Biele notched a hat trick and the Lions casted past the Bengals in their season opener. Sophomore Dylan Fielder and junior Andrew Strohmetz also added a goal each and Nick Calarco added two assists.

Neptune 1, Manasquan 0

Senior Vinny Tremarco converted with a left-footed finish 25 minutes into the game for the lone score of the match and junior goalkeeper Irving Rodriguez earned the shutout in goal as the Scarlet Fliers upended hte Warriors on opening day. Rodriguez's performance in goal helped offset a 29-8 advantage in shots for Manasquan.

Rumson-Fair Haven 2, No. 10 Long Branch 1 (OT)

Senior Jamie Martin buried a left-footed strike off the far left post and in from the right perimeter of the 18-yard box with five seconds left in the first overtime period and the Bulldogs stunned the Green Wave on a golden goal.

Long Branch scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute when sophomore Vanacio Fernandes hit a 30-yard shot from the left angle that hopped into the far right corner for his first career varsity goal. Just seconds earlier, Rumson goalkeeper Markar Krikorian saved a one-on-one chance for Long Branch sophomore Juan Carlos Merino from eight yards out on the right side.

Long Branch later came close to tying the game on a 25-yard rocket off the left foot of sophomore Hernan Acevedo, which glanced off the crossbar.

Rumson took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, when junior Sam Sapnar buried a left-footed direct kick from 25 yards out on the right side to the far left corner.
