Class A North

No. 1 Manalapan 3, Marlboro 1

Ryan Hammer's penalty kick in the 58th minute broke a 1-1 tie and Adam Weisberger added a goal in the 65th to lead the Braves (2-0, 1-0) to a win over the Mustangs (1-1, 1-1) in their A North opener. Hammer also opened the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute, giving him five goals in Manalapan's first two games.

Rob Pratka set up Hammer's first goal and Weisberger scored off a set piece from Hammer and an assist from Ayush Mittal. Sophomore Dan McGrath scored the equalizer for Marlboro in the 37th minute to send the to teams to halftime even at 1.

No. 4 Freehold Twp. 2, Freehold 0

Junior Mike Maltese scored two goals for the second straight game and the Patriots (2-0, 2-0) blanked the Colonials (0-2-1, 0-2-0). Maltese bent in a corner kick in the 10th minute and scored four minutes late by heading in a cross from Jason Czajkowski from the right side of the field. Junior goalkeeper and CBA transfer Mike Christina earned his first shutout in net with three saves.

 

Class A South

No. 8 Toms River South 2, Brick 0

Junior Cameron Geerinck and senior Ryan Shiffer each scored second-half goals for the second straight game and the Indians (2-0, 1-0) improved to 2-0 by beating the Green Dragons (1-1, 0-1). Sophomore Tyler Egnatuk assisted Geerinck's goal and Geerinck later assisted Shiffer's second goal of the season.

Jackson Memorial 2, Toms River East 0

Sophomores Mike Schoener and Christian Fryc each scored a goal and the Jaguars (2-0-1, 1-0-0) remained unbeaten by topping the Raiders (0-2, 0-1) in their A South opener. Schoener opened the scoring in the 15th minute and Fryc added an insurance tally in the 57th.

No. 10 Brick Memorial, 3, Southern 0

Senior Kevin Simek scored a goal and dished out an assist to lead a three-goal attack as the Mustangs (3-0, 1-0) stayed hot with a win over the Rams (2-1, 0-1). Bryan Malerba and Alex Fernandez each scored a goal and Kevin Duffy added two assists for Brick Memorial, which has scored 11 goals over its first three games of the season.

Toms River North 3, Lacey 2 (OT)

Senior Ryan Cheslock scored twice, including the golden goal in overtime as the Mariners (2-1, 1-0) won their second straight thriller, this time by beating the Lions (1-2, 0-1). Toms River North defeated Wall on Wednesday, 4-3, after trailing 3-1 with 17 minutes left.

Junior Joey Hertgen also scored for Toms River North.

 

Class B Central

Keyport 4, Henry Hudson 1

Senior Joe Froncek scored two goals in the first 10 minutes and the Red Raiders (1-0, 1-0) beat the Admirals (0-1, 0-1) for their first varsity soccer win. Sophomore Brendan O'Brian added two more goals for Keyport and also set up Froncek's first goal in the fourth minute.

Senior Matt Young scored in the 55th minute for Henry Hudson's lone goal, momentarily cutting Keyport's lead to 3-1.

St. Rose 3, Mater Dei Prep 0

Seniors Brendan O'Malley and Joe Forlenza each scored goals to put St. Rose ahead and sophomore Jack Cusack capped the scoring to help the Purple Roses (1-1, 1-0) finish off a win over the Seraphs (0-1, 0-1).

Shore 1, Point Beach 0

Mike Barreca scored the game's lone goal and the Blue Devils (2-0, 1-0) topped the defending B Central champion Garnet Gulls (0-2, 0-1) for their second straight win to open the season.

 

Class B South

Donovan Catholic 6, Manchester 0

Six different players scored one goal and the Griffins (1-0, 1-0) rolled over the Hawks (0-4, 0-1) in their opener. Senior Matt Kelly opened the scoring, followed by goals from Jon Michael Pereira, Justin Alves, Dom DiSalvo, Jake Mulvaney and Jake Thoms.

No. 7 Central 3,  Pinelands 0

Senior Doug Jensen scored two goals and Blake Czajkowski added another as the Golden Eagles (2-0, 1-0) rolled past the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1) in B South. Junior Shane Cranstoun added two assists and sophomore Nate Wiley set up the other goal.

Jackson Liberty 5, Lakewood 1

Brandon Pirog capped Jackson Liberty's five-goal barrage with goals in the 59th and 61st minutes and the Lions (1-0, 1-0) cruised past the Piners (0-3, 0-1) in their season opener. Raoul Thoroff added a goal for Jackson Liberty and also assisted Pirog's second goal.

Bryan Garry opened the scoring in the third minute and Adam Haidi converted a penalty kick in the 14th minute to stake the Lions to a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Nick Siragusa saved none shots in goal while filling in for injured starter Aidan Benbrook (concussion).

Lakewood's lone goal came on a corner kick by Eduardo Castillo.
