Chris Hoskins scored off a Mike Staklinski corner kick in and the Patriots knocked off the top-seeded Cougars to advance to the Central Jersey Group IV semifinals against No. 4 Monroe on Monday. Senior goalkeeper Brian Shushkovsky laid out for diving saves on consecutive shots to protect the lead and highlight his 11th shutout of the season.

Freehold Township is now 7-0-1 in its last eight games with only one goal allowed.

 

Central Jersey Group III

(4) Allentown 2, (12) Long Branch 1

Guilherme DeNovaes scored his 22nd goal of the season, but the Redbirds scored off two set pieces to beat the Green Wave and continue their Central Jersey Group III title defense.

 

Central Jersey Group II

(1) Point Boro 3, (9) North Plainfield 0

Alex Stupar scored on a headed and Jake Woodring scored his second goal of the tournament to lead the Panthers to a win over the Cannucks. Woodring also scored a goal and an assist in the opening-round win over Raritan.

The Panthers scored an insurance tally on an own goal. Point Boro will host No. 13 Governor Livingston Monday in the sectional semifinals.

(7) Holmdel 1, (2) Delran 1 (Holmdel advances on penalty kicks, 7-6)

Junior Tyler Marchiano saved Delran's ninth-round penalty kick and senior Brendan Wall converted the next attempt to send the Hornets past the defending sectional champions and into the sectional semifinals against No. 14 Bordentown on Monday.

Gino D'Agostino gave Holmdel a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute when he settled a pass from Tom Rogan with his chest and knocked in the game's first goal. Shane Doherty equalized for Delran in the 69th minute.

Wall, D'Agostino and Nick Zolofra each converted two kicks in the shootout round.

 

South Jersey Group III

South Jersey, Non-Public A

(3) CBA 4, (6) St. John Vianney 0

Russell Romano scored 1:12 into the game and the Colts took advantage of a St. John Vianney red card to upend the Lancers and advance to the sectional semifinals on Monday against No. 10 Red Bank Catholic.

Romano added a second goal in the 58th minute to put CBA ahead 3-0, which came five minutes after Nick Meyer ripped a 30-yard strike to the upper far right corner to put the game out of reach for the undermanned Lancers, who played with 10 men from the 35th minute on.

Sean Leister tacked on a goal in the 62nd minute by flicking a header into the net off a corner kick by Meyer.
