CLASS A SOUTH

No. 4 Southern 11, Toms River South 4

Junior attackman Nick Fontana continued his hot start to the season with five goals and one assist to power the Rams (3-0, 1-0) to a win over the Indians (1-1, 0-1).

Ryan McWhorter finished with two goals and three assists, Ryan Comfort had one goal and three assists and Aniello Russo, Ajani Steverson and Nick Stankus each scored once. Senior FOGO Anthony Firmani won his 500th career face-off and Luke Maul made 13 saves.

Andrew Xigues and Declan Mullin each scored twice and Chris Krause made 12 saves for Toms River South.

No. 1 Manasquan 16, No. 9 St. John Vianney 1

 

No. 8 Howell 8, Brick Memorial 7

Junior attackman Joey Sorrentino scored two goals with one assist and junior midfielder Vaughn Meehan scored two goals and won 12 of 15 face-offs to help the Rebels (1-1) hold off the Mustangs (1-1).

Meehan's second goal came in the fourth quarter gave Howell an 8-6 lead. Brick Memorial freshman Jared Crippen scored to cut the deficit to 8-7 but Howell was able to hold on down the stretch. The game was tied 2-2 at halftime before Howell scored five times in the third quarter to take a 7-5 lead.

Sophomore attackman Logan Dennison notched a goal and two assists and sophomore Chase Burke scored his first varsity goal for Howell. Vincent Musico and Pat Handy also scored goals while junior defenseman Ernie Onesti picked up a game-high seven ground balls and also had two takeaways. Senior goalie Nick Roberto made seven saves.

Senior Dawson Heath scored three times and Crippen had a pair of goals to lead Brick Memorial. Joey Ferrara and Matt Ingenito each scored once and sophomore goalie Jake White made 20 saves.
