SOUTH GROUP III

1-Moorestown 19, 5-Jackson Liberty 3

Seniors Walter Matthies and Tyler Kalmowitz and sophomore Max Matthies had goals for the Lions (13-6), who fell to the Quakers (17-3) to conclude their season.

 

SOUTH GROUP II

1-Manasquan 12, 5-Hopewell Valley 6

Freshman attackman Canyon Birch scored four goals and junior Kyle LeBlanc led a stellar defensive effort as the Warriors (18-4) downed the Bulldogs (10-10) to reach their first sectional final in program history.

Junior midfielder John Moran had two goals and two assists, junior midfielder Pat Felstedt finished with one goal and two assists and freshman midfielder James Pendergist scored twice. Junior FOGO Matt Thermann won 17 of 23 face-offs and junior goalie Tom Pollock made five saves.

Senior midfielder Paul Krueger and junior attackmen Joe Tonkovich and Jarrett Birch each scored once.

Hopewell Valley led 3-2 early in the second quarter on a goal by Nick DeGennaro, but Manasquan would score the final five goals of the period to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Felstedt set up Canyon Birch for a goal at 5:05 to give the Warriors the lead for good.

Pendergist and Canyon Birch tallied in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to open up a 10-6 lead for Manasquan, but Hopewell got those goals right back on tallies by Isaac Lieboff and Nolan Crognale. Manasquan then came up with a clutch penalty kill, and a takeaway by LeBlanc led to a goal by Jarrett Birch with 5:23 to play that put the Warriors back in control.

Manasquan will host Rumson-Fair Haven in the sectional final on Saturday in a rematch of the Shore Conference Tournament final, won by Rumson, 8-5.

 

2-Rumson-Fair Haven 8, 3-Seneca 3

Senior attackman Griffin Schultz scored three times and senior attackman Robbie Garavente had two goals and one assist to lead the Bulldogs (18-3) past the Golden Eagles (16-4) and into a sectional final for the fourth straight season.

Senior midfielder Matt Waters had a goal and an assist and sophomore Wyatt Feinberg and junior Colin Pavluk each scored once. Charlie Curran and Garrett Sweeley each had two assists.

Senior FOGO Butch Clark dominated the face-off circle by going a perfect 13-for-13 with seven ground balls. Senior goalie Kyle Knapp made six saves.

Juniors Emmett Jennings and Dan Maloney and senior Ian Clarke each had two takeaways to lead another outstanding defensive performance by the Bulldogs. Rumson has allowed just three goals in the state tournament.

Rumson led 2-1 at halftime and 4-3 heading to the fourth quarter where they outscored Seneca 4-0.

Rumson will play at top-seeded Manasquan in the sectional final on Saturday. It will be a rematch of the Shore Conference Tournament championship won by Rumson, 8-5. It will also be the first time two Shore Conference teams have met to decide a lacrosse state championship.

2-Bergen Catholic 16, 10-CBA 3

The Crusaders raced out to a 10-0 halftime lead and overwhelmed the Colts (12-7) to knock them out of the playoffs and end their season.

Sophomore attackman Michael Carroll returned from injury to score twice for CBA, while junior midfielder Ryan Madalone scored once. Junior goalie Ryan McGuiness made 14 saves.

Trevor Weingarten led Bergen Catholic with four goals.
