BRICK -  The Shore Conference boys lacrosse season opened up on Wednesday as Brick welcomed a Point Boro team playing in its first game as a varsity program.

Sophomore midfielder Mickey Holland won the opening face-off, and Brick took control of the game and never looked back. Brick controlled the tempo of the game, which took place primarily in the Dragons' offensive zone in a 12-1 nondivisional victory.

Senior forward Hunter Palmer was impressive in the opening game as he totaled 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) in the win.

“I was really excited to just step on the field and play,” Palmer said. “It was the first game of the season, and we wanted to come out and make a statement.”

Palmer scored two first-quarter goals and assisted on Nick Defeumia’s goal. The Dragons piled on six goals in the second quarter as midfielders Pat Adamitis and Phil Sammarco both scored once. Defeumia netted one more, and Palmer added a pair to up his total to four goals by halftime.

The Green Dragons lost their shutout early in the third quarter, but was firmly in control against a Panthers team just getting its feet wet for the first time in varsity action. Palmer kept his outstanding game going by scoring another three goals in the second half.

“We lost a lot of talent from last season with Dave (Kearns) and Louie (Ray) graduating, but we really stepped up and showed off our talent,” Adamitis said.

Brick looks to take the momentum into a nonconference game in North Brunswick on Friday at 3:45.
