Central Jersey Group III

(4) Lakewood 78, (5) Long Branch 52

Senior Sean Barksdale scored 35 points to go with 11 rebounds and six blocks as the Piners steamrolled the Green Wave to advance to the sectional semifinals Friday against top-seeded Ewing.

Barksdale ended play Wednesday 18 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Senior Ryzson Barnes chipped in 21 points and nine boards and senior Amir Tyler added 12 points, six assists and five steals for Lakewood.

Senior Anthony Velasquez scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half to lead Long Branch. Sophomore Tyree Morris also scored 12 points and senior Jamar Foster poured in 11 in the loss.

(1) Ewing 60, (8) Ocean 58

Junior Edamiyon Doggett scored on a putback with 0.5 seconds left and the Blue Devils escaped with a win over the upset-minded Spartans.

Ocean tied the game with 30 seconds left on the fourth three-pointer of the game by Jake Talarico, who finished with a team-high 14 points. The Spartans led, 55-54, with 1:30 remaining but Ewing forced a turnover, hit two intentional foul shots and knocked down two more shots at the line to go in front, 58-55.

Talarico, senior Manny Padron and junior Darius Brown combined to hit all 10 of Ocean's three-pointers. Both Padron and Brown hit three threes and finished with 13 points.

Senior Deon Hale led Ewing with a game-high 25 points. The Blue Devils will host No. 4 Lakewood on Friday with a trip to the sectional final on the line.

 

Central Jersey Group I

(4) Point Beach 55, (5) Perth Amboy Tech 32

Senior Jimmy Panzini led a balanced scoring effort with 11 points and the Garnet Gulls cruised to a win over Perth Amboy Tech to reach the sectional semifinals against No. 1 Bound Brook.

Sophomore Danny Frauenheim added 10 points and senior Alex Mrusek chipped in eight for Point Beach.

(3) Florence 59, (11) Keyport 36

Senior Travis Alvarez scored 15 points and junior Brendan O'Brien added 10 but the Red Raiders fell to the Flashes.

(2) South River 64, (10) Henry Hudson 62

Senior Tom DeFillippo scored a game-high 31 points and the Admirals rallied from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit only to fall a basket short against the Rams on the road.

 

South Jersey Group III

(3) Toms River East 83, (11) Bridgeton 62

Senior Ryan West scored 30 points to go with four rebounds and six assists as the Raiders rolled through the Bulldogs and into the sectional semifinals at No. 2 Highland.

Junior Phil Lingat added 21 points and senior Pat Saunders pitched in 13 points and seven rebounds for Toms River East. Senior Bailey Engelhard also chipped in six points and 10 rebounds in the win.

(8) St. John Vianney 69, (9) Paul VI 49

Jake Guempel scored a career-high 25 points and Grant Goode added 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Lancers beat the Eagles to advance to the sectional semifinals Friday against top-seeded St. Joseph of Metuchen.

(4) Notre Dame 89, (13) Red Bank Catholic 59

(7) Donovan Catholic 69, (10) Gloucester Catholic 44

Senior Riley Collins scored 24 points - including 11-for-12 shooting from the free-throw line - and senior Mike Boice added 19 points, five steals and four blocks to lead the Griffins to a convincing win over the Rams. Donovan Catholic will travel to No. 2 CBA on Friday.
