Class A South

Brick Memorial 74, No. 4 Southern 70

Seniors Aaron Scheiderman and Scott White each scored 19 points and the Mustangs (4-3, 3-1) held on to beat the Rams (4-3, 1-2) for a key Class A South home win. Scheiderman also had seven rebounds and six assists in the win.

Joe Hans chipped in 12 points in the win and R.J. Hernandez added seven points and 12 rebounds for Brick Memorial.

Junior Peyton Wejnert led Southern with a game-high 25 points while senior Jake Logue poured in 16 in the loss. Dylan Clark and Ethan DuBois each added 11 points for the Rams.

No. 5 Toms River North 67. Toms River South 66

Sophomore Darrion Carrington hit the second of two free throws with 4.4 seconds left to break a 66-66 tie and the Mariners (8-0, 3-0) survived a late fourth-quarter rally by the Indians (3-3, 1-1) to win their eight straight to open the season.

Toms River North led 66-58 with 3:26 left to play in the game, but Toms River South rallied to pull even in the final seconds before Carrington earned two free throws and hit the second attempt with the game on the line.

Carrington finished with six points and seven assists, while sophomore Mike Nyisztor poured in a team-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds. Senior Ted Thelemaque also chipped in 12 points, while fellow senior Jordan Craig posted 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior Tymere Berry scored a game-high 25 points to lead Toms River South. Junior R.J. Laing netted 18 points and senior Khaleel Greene dropped 12 in the loss.

Toms River East 65, Brick 61 (2 OT)

Junior Ryan West buried a go-ahead three-pointer with 14 seconds left in double-overtime and the Raiders (3-3, 1-2) held on to edge the Green Dragons (1-6, 1-3) for their first Class A South win of the season. West finished with 19 points to lead Toms River East, while sophomore Phil Lingat added 13 and senior Nat Amadeo had 12.

Senior Kenny Buell led Brick with 21 points and five assists, while senior Brian Oehme went off for 20 points and 23 rebounds.

 

Class B North

Colts Neck 34, No. 7 Matawan 32

Junior Lloyd Daniels hit a short jumper with two seconds left to break a 32-32 tie and the Cougars (6-1, 4-0) remained unbeaten in Class B North with a road win over the defending division champion Huskies (4-3, 2-2).

Daniels hit a go-ahead three with 2:25 left to put Colts Neck ahead, 32-30, and Matawan tied the game with two different 1-for-2 trips to the free-throw line - one by Mergim Gyjriqi and the other by Jason Dunne. On the deciding possession, Daniels missed a runner, but the ball was batted back to him and the junior hit an uncontested seven-foot jumpshot from the left baseline.

Matawan called timeout with two seconds left and Dunne's halfcourt shot came up short at the buzzer. Daniels scored all nine of his points in the second half, while senior Chris O'Reilly led Colts Neck with 11 points.

Dunne also scored all 11 of his points after halftime to lead Matawan. The senior converted a four-point play with 3:26 left to give Matawan a 30-29 lead, his third three-pointer of the second half.

Red Bank Catholic 59, No. 10 Neptune 42

Senior Liam Byrne scored 19 points and junior Eddie Hahn added 14 as the Caseys (7-2, 4-1) rolled through the Scarlet Fliers. Joe Montano added nine points on three 3-pointers.

Sophomore Barry Brown led Neptune (2-5, 0-4) with 19 points.

 

Class B Central

St. Rose 44, Henry Hudson 21

The Purple Roses (2-5, 2-1) coasted to a win over the Admirals (3-3, 1-3) to give head coach Dennis Devaney his 500th career victory.

Mater Dei Prep 38, Keansburg 36

Seniors Tysaun White and Jason Mandile each scored 10 points and the Seraphs (3-5, 3-1) edged the Titans for their second straight win. Sophomore Quentin Godfrey led Keansburg (0-6, 0-4) with 11 points.

No. 9 Point Beach 66, Keyport 26

Senior Jesse Hill and junior Mike Rice each scored 15 points and the Garnet Gulls (5-2, 4-0) rolled to a win over the Red Raiders (2-4, 1-3). Senior Ryan Sheehan and freshman Trevor Covey each added nine points in the win.

Junior Travis Alvarez led Keyport with 14 points.

 

Class B South

No. 2 Lakewood 73, Central 51

Junior Amir Tyler scored 14 points to go with 10 assists and six steals as the Piners (7-0, 4-0) beat the Golden Eagles (3-3, 2-1) to win their seventh straight to open the season. Ryan Lawrence scored a team-high 16 points to lead Lakewood, while junior Tyreek Grayson chipped in 15 points, five assists and three steals. Junior Sean Barksdale added 12 points, seven rebounds and five blocks.

Point Boro 59, Jackson Liberty 55

Barnegat 67, Donovan Catholic 60

Junior Nick Camarato scored a game-high 27 points and the Bengals (2-5, 1-3) knocked off the Griffins (4-3, 2-2) for Barnegat's first win in program history over Donovan Catholic - formerly known as Monsignor Donovan.

Senior Kyle Morris added 13 points and senior Xavier Young added 10 in the landmark win for the Bengals.

James Fata led Donovan Catholic with 17 points and Mike Boice chipped in 16.
