No. 8 Colts Neck 61, Point Beach 60 (OT)

Junior Lloyd Daniels banked in a driving scoop shot with eight seconds left in overtime and the Cougars (8-2) pulled out a thrilling win over the Garnet Gulls (7-4). Daniels scored 19 of his game-high 25 points after halftime and his game-winning shot gave Colts Neck its only lead of the game.

Point Beach junior Jimmy Panzini scored the first four points of overtime to put Point Beach up 56-52 with 1:55 left, but Daniels answered with a three from the right corner. After senior Jesse Hill made one of two free throws to push the Point Beach lead to 57-55, Colts Neck's Jordan DeGroot and Point Beach's Trevor Covey traded transition lay-ups to make it 59-57 in favor of Point Beach with 1:04 left.

Daniels hit two free throws to tie the game with 53.2 seconds left after drawing a foul in the paint and Panzini hit one of two on the other end to put Point Beach ahead, 60-59, with 34.7 left. Colts Neck took the clock to 10 seconds before Daniels spun to his left and kissed an under-handed shot off the glass and in.

Danny Frauenheim attempted a driving lay-up that did not fall as time expired.

Point Beach led by as many as 13 and led 47-37 early in the fourth quarter. Colts Neck pulled even for the first time since the opening minutes on two free throws by junior Tim Cavrack to make it 50-50 with 2:29 left. Garnet Gulls freshman Danny Frauenheim and Cougars senior Chris O'Reilly exchanged three throws on either end and each team missed a potential go ahead shot to send the game to overtime tied at 52.

Daniels scored his 25 points and the game-winning shot two days after shooting 0-for-11 against Red Bank on Tuesday. The junior swingman shot 9-for-14 on Saturday.

O'Reilly added 18 points for Colts Neck, which played without senior center Mike Lamb and lost junior forward Kyle Gordon to a right knee injury and junior forward Tom O'Reilly to his fifth foul in the fourth quarter. Lamb injured his left ankle in a loss to Red Bank on Thursday.

Panzini led Point Beach with 19 points and senior Mike Frauenheim added 18 while battling first-half foul trouble. Mike Frauenheim had a clean look from 18 feet at the regulation buzzer, but his potential game-winning shot from the wing rimmed in and out.

Hill - Point Beach's leading scorer - did not play in the first half because of a sore left ankle. Hill said he rolled it on a curb while running to retrieve his dog from the middle of the street as a car was bearing down on the animal. Hill made his first appearance with 5:35 left in the third and finished with five points.

Wall 59, Marlboro 51

Senior Trent Mitchell scored 20 points and Wall's trio of experienced varsity seniors combined for 52 points to lead the Crimson Knights (8-2) to their seventh straight win by beating the Mustangs (4-6). Senior Brendan Barcas poured in 17 points, while fellow senior Ryan Janeczek added 15 points for Wall, which will now prepare for two key upcoming Class B North division home games against Colts Neck (8-2, 5-1) and Red Bank (9-1, 6-1).

No. 7 Rumson-Fair Haven 81, Middletown South 58

Junior Brendan Barry scored a game-high 20 points and the Bulldogs (9-2) won their sixth straight by handling the Eagles (4-7). Senior Thomas Famulary added 15 points, while senior Alex Geiger poured in 11 and junior Mickey Schluter chipped in 10. Senior Kenny Ferrare also posted nine points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Senior Dan Roibal led Middletown South with 19 points.

St. John Vianney 57, Matawan 51

Zach Howarth scored a game-high 19 points and the Lancers (6-6) picked up a key non-division win against the neighboring Huskies (5-6). St. John Vianney played without leading scorer Grant Goode, who sprained his ankle Thursday against Shore, accordiing to Lancers coach Matt Conklin.

Junior Jake Guemple scored 15 points to pick up the slack in Goode's absence. Senior Jason Dunne led Matawan with 18 points.

No. 9 Neptune 44, No. 6 Manasquan 36

Sophomore Barry Brown scored 16 points and the Scarlet Fliers (4-7) shut down the Warriors (9-3) on the road to continue their strong season outside of division play. Senior Kerry Kirkwood added nine points for Neptune, which is now 4-1 in games against opponents outside B North, but 0-6 in divisional play.

Junior Ryan Jensen led Manasquan with 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior Luke O'Shaughnessy added eight points and eight rebounds.

Holmdel 40, St. Rose 37

Senior Luke Mayell hit the game-winning three-pointer with four seconds to break a 37-37 tie and the Hornets (4-5) beat the Purple Roses (5-6) to pull out a non-divisional road win. Mayell finished with a game-high 14 points and junior John Miller chipped in eight in the win.

Senior Nolan Slattery led St. Rose with 12 points and knocked down a three to tie the game at 37 with 36 seconds left.

Howell 61, Brick Memorial 47

Junior Matt Morton scored 18 points and knocked down four three-pointers as the Rebels (7-5) stormed past the Mustangs (5-5) on the road. Morton scored 10 of his points in the second quarter for Howell, which built its lead up to 23 at one point in the fourth quarter.

Senior WIll Kocsis added 14 points, while senior Gino Palummo chipped in 10. Senior Aaron Trimble scored nine points in his season debut, while Scott White led Brick Memorial with 15 points.

 

Non-Conference

Raritan 59, Marion Thomas School 38

Junior Jordan Smith scored a game-high 18 points and the Rockets (7-5) rolled to a non-conference win. Jepi Tonuzi and Kevin Rodriguez each added 10 points for the Rockets, while Joe Strand chipped in nine.

Southern 80, Millville 59

Senior swingman Jake Logue scored 27 points, including the 1,000th of his high school career, as the Rams (8-3) steamrolled the Thunderbolts (0-10) at the Box Out Cancer Showcase. Logue also pulled in 10 rebounds, while junior Peyton Wejnert led Southern with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Ethan DuBois also added six points and 10 assists in the win.

Ranney 44, New Egypt 30

Junior James Geraghty scored 20 points and the Panthers (4-5) beat the Warriors (0-11) in a non-conference game. Sophomore Joe Mahoney also poured in 12 points for Ranney.
