(1) Matawan 45, (4) Spotswood 42

Junior Joe Piscopo scored a team-high 13 points and led the defensive effort against Spotswood senior guard Jake Dadika as the Huskies edged the Chargers to advance to their first sectional final appearance since 1996.

Dadika - who became Spotswood's all-time leading scorer in a win over Manchester on Thursday night - finished with 19 points on 6-19 shooting, including 2-for-6 in the second half when the Huskies guarded him with Piscopo.

Senior Austen Planes scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds for Matawan, which will host the Rumson-Willingboro winner on Tuesday night.

(10) Rumson-Fair Haven 71, (6) Willingboro 69

Senior Jack Herrmann scored 23 points and sophomore Brendan Barry chipped in 21 as the Bulldogs used a key run that began late in the third quarter and held on to beat the Chimeras in the sectional semifinals. Rumson will play for its first ever sectional championship Tuesday at top-seeded Matawan.

With the game tied at 45, the Bulldogs went on an 18-6 run to take a 63-51 lead with less than four minutes left. Willingboro chipped the lead to two and missed a three as time expired to give Rumson the win.

Junior Thomas Famulary also had 17 points, six rebounds and seven assists for the Bulldogs, who lost in the CJ II semifinals in consecutive seasons in 2010 and 2011.

 

South Jersey Group IV

(6) Cherokee 63, (7) Southern 39

Senior Mike Gesicki scored 14 points in the final game of his illustrious high school career, as the Rams fell to the Chiefs. Cherokee will play top-seeded Cherry Hill East in Tuesday's sectional championship.
