Senior center Matt Ringel scored 17 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocks and the Marlboro boys basketball team survived a late surge by Freehold Township Monday to win their first game of the season, 61-60.

Kenny Larocca added 12 points on four 3-pointers and handed out four assists, while Dan Weiss also chipped in eight points and four assists.

Marlboro led 38-21 midway through the third quarter and 51-39 midway through the fourth, but Freehold Township twice came charging back. Tyree Wilson knocked down a long three to close the third quarter, pulling the Patriots within 47-37. Trailing by three in the final seconds, Nick Facendo drove for a lay-up that cut the Marlboro lead to 61-60, but Freehold Township could not convert the go-ahead score.

Wilson finished with a game-high 18 points to lead Freehold Township.
