The Lakewood boys basketball team had plenty of time to think about the close call it survived last Thursday, Jan. 23 against Pinelands, the second time in two meetings this year the Wildcats pushed the Piners the distance in a three-point loss.

Against perennial Shore Conference Class B South contender and rival Donovan Catholic Friday, following a seven-day layoff, Lakewood left no doubt.

Junior Tyreek Grayson led a balanced scoring effort and the Piners - No. 5 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 - coasted to a 62-39 win over the Griffins, snapping a four-game winning streak by Donovan Catholic while extending a five-game streak of their own.

The Piners (12-1, 9-0) have now won 33 straight Class B South division games, with the last loss coming on Jan. 14, 2013 at Central, which will host Lakewood on Monday.

Senior Ryan Lawrence added 14 points and junior Sean Barksdale chipped in 12 in the win. Mike Boice led Donovan Catholic (8-5, 5-4) with 14 points.

Lakewood will travel to Rancocas Valley Saturday for the Joe Coney Classic, where the Piners will take on Trenton Catholic Academy, featuring Syracuse University recruit and recently-named McDonald's All-American Malachi Richardson, at 6 p.m.
