Southern Regional senior Peyton Wejnert scored 24 points Tuesday to reach the 2,000-point plateau for his career.

Wejnert is believed to be the first Shore Conference player to reach 2,000 points since Jermaine Clay scored 2,210 for Central from 1986 to 1999.

Wejnert also grabbed 10 rebounds Tuesday as his Rams fell, 66-48, to Lenape in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV opening round.

Wejnert was exactly 24 points shy of the milestone and finishes his standout four-year varsity career with exactly 2,000 points. He began his career at Point Pleasant Borough High School before transferring to Southern prior to his junior season last year.

Wejnert accumulated 1,356 points over his two seasons with the Rams, during which Southern went 38-16. This season, he averaged 29.4 points and 11.7 rebounds and on Tuesday was named a Shore Conference Coaches' All-Shore First-Team selection for the second straight season.
