NJSIAA Tournament

Sectional Finals

Central Jersey Group IV

(13) Hillsborough 66, (2) Freehold Twp. 58

Senior Jason Czajkowski scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half and Freehold Township took a four-point lead into the final five minutes, but the Raiders (15-12) closed the game on a 16-4 run to capture its first sectional championship while also denying the Patriots (21-7) their first.

Freehold Township took a 54-50 lead on a jumper by junior Nick Facendo, forcing a Hillsborough timeout with 5:06 left. After the timeout, the Raiders made two defensive stops, cut the lead to two points on a basket in the post by Joe Suseck and grabbed a one-point lead on their next possession on a three by Rob Askes with just under three minutes left.

Over the final two minutes, Hillsborough hit 11-of-12 free-throw attempts to seal the game. Askes finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Suseck and Mike Reilly each added 12 points for Hillsborough, which entered the tournament one game under a .500 winning percentage. The Raiders beat four Freehold Regional District teams - Manalapan, Howell, Marlboro and Freehold Township - on the way to its first sectional title.

Czajkowski hit five three-pointers in the game, including a running three as the third-quarter clock expired to put the Patriots ahead 46-44 heading into the fourth quarter. Facendo added 14 points, while Tyree Wilson poured in 14 for Freehold Township.

Hillsborough will play South Jersey Group IV champion Cherry Hill East Wednesday at Egg Harbor Township High School at 5:30 p.m.

Central Jersey Group II

(2) Manasquan 61, (8) Bordentown 45

Senior Kyle Bradshaw scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked three shots and the Warriors (22-6) rolled past the Cinderella Scotties (24-6) to win their first sectional championship since 2009. Bordentown had knocked off both No. 1 Lakewood and Shore Conference Tournament champion Rumson-Fair Haven on the road to reach the final.

Ryan Jensen added 14 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks, while Jack Sheehan and Aidan McMenaman each scored nine points. Senior Luke O'Shaughnessy scored five points, dished out eight assists, and also limited Bordentown leading scorer Myron Gordon to 10 points on 3-for-13 shooting.

Manasquan will play two-time South Jersey Group II champion Camden Wednesday at Perth Amboy at 7 p.m. in the Group II semifinals.

Sectional Semifinals

Central Jersey Group III

(3) Hamilton West 48, (10) Middletown North 29

Senior Dylan Frawley scored 15 points to go with 11 rebounds and seven blocks, but the Lions (8-19) could not muster up enough offense to beat the Hornets (22-5).

With sophomores John Tomassetti, Marc Cerbo and Jules Calhoun, as well as freshman Dave Campbell starting alongside Frawley, the Lions will return four starters to a team that won two NJSIAA tournament games after entering the postseason on a 10-game losing streak.

Hamilton will play at defending sectional champion and No. 1 Ewing Tuesday in the Central Jersey Group III final.

South Jersey Group III

(2) Winslow 65, (3) Toms River South 52

Senior Tymere Berry scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds with five blocks, but the Eagles (16-10) were too much for the Indians (18-9) and ended a standout season for Berry and Toms River South.

Winslow will travel to play top-seeded Delsea Tuesday in the South Jersey Group III championship.
