NJSIAA Tournament

Sectional Finals

Central Jersey Group IV

(2) Colts Neck 45, (4) Freehold Twp. 44

Junior Brendan Clarke hit a contested 10-footer as time expired and the Cougars beat the Patriots at the buzzer to win their first ever sectional championship.

Clarke finished the game with 11 points, the final two of which came out of a timeout with 9.3 seconds left after Colts Neck senior Tom O'Reilly missed two free throws with 16.1 seconds left. Senior Khaled Mostafa, however, secured the offensive rebound on the second miss and the Cougars took a timeout after Freehold Township gave its last foul before the bonus.

Senior Lloyd Daniels got the ball out of the timeout and gave it up to Clarke, who dribbled to his left and pulled up for a shot just outside the left block that touched nothing but net as the clock hit all zeroes.

Daniels scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the first half, including 11 straight Colts Neck points during the second quarter, which ended with a 24-24 halftime tie.

Clarke also assisted a game-tying layup by senior Kyle Gordon with just under a minute left. Freehold Township senior Nick Facendo then earned a trip to the free-throw line with 25.6 second left and hit the second of the two foul shots to give the Patriots a 44-43 lead.

Facendo finished with 17 points to lead Freehold Township, including nine points in the fourth quarter. Junior Steve Staklinski added 10 points for Freehold Township, which lost in the Central Jersey Group IV final for the second straight season.

Colts Neck will play South Jersey Group IV champion Atlantic City Wednesday in the Group IV semifinals.

Central Jersey Group II

(1) Bordentown 59, (2) Manasquan 54

Senior Ryan Jensen scored 16 points and the Warriors clawed back from a double-digit second-half deficit, but fell short against the Scotties in the sectional final. Bordentown will play Camden in the Group II semifinals on Wednesday.

Junior Devin Jensen added 15 points and senior Jack Sheehan poured in eight points in the final game of his varsity career.

Senior Darnill Brown led Bordentown with 19 points and fellow junior Manny Ansong added 16. Manasquan held senior and leading scorer Myron Gordon to 12 points and held a decided advantage on the boards despite the loss.

Sectional Semifinals

South Jersey Non-Public A

(3) St. Augustine 85, (2) CBA 52

Junior Justyn Mutts scored 17 of his game-high 26 points in a dominant Hermits first half, which ignited a rout of the Colts in the sectional semifinals.

Mutts added 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks, one of which was a thunderous rejection as time expired in that first half for St. Augustine. The Hermits took a 50-15 lead on CBA into the halftime locker room.

Junior Austin Kennedy added 16 points and 10 rebounds and senior Sa'eed Nelson scored 13 points and dished out eight assists for St. Augustine, which avenged last year's 83-77 loss to CBA in last year's South Jersey Non-Public A championship game. Marlon Hargis and Walt Harvey rounded out five St. Augustine players in double-figures, with Hargis netting 13 and Harvey 12.

Senior Jack McGuire led CBA with 16 points and fellow senior Pat Andree capped his record-setting career with a 13-point game. Andree finishes his high school career with a school-record 1,981 points.
