Senior Steve Staklinski scored a game-high 23 points and the Patriots (7-0) separated from the host Mariners (5-1) early in the fourth quarter to win their first ever WOBM Christmas Classic.

Staklinski scored 13 points in the fourth, including a thunderous two-handed dunk as he was fouled. The three-point play capped a 7-0 burst to open the quarter, giving Freehold Township a 34-26 lead.

The Patriots clamped down on Toms River North's top offensive threats, holding senior Jaden Rhoden to eight points and senior Mike Nyisztor to six. In total, Toms River North shot 13-for-48 (27 percent) and committed 15 turnovers. After scoring eight points before halftime, Rhoden did not score in the second half.

Friday's win capped a superior defensive tournament for Freehold Township, which held all three WOBM opponents under 40 points and to an average of 37.5 per game. Only one Freehold Township opponent this season has crossed the 40-point plateau and Neptune scored 42 points in a 66-42 Patriots win.

Third Place Game

(2) Manasquan 71, (5) St. Rose 66

Senior Devin Jensen scored 25 points and the Warriors (5-2) held off the Purple Roses (4-3) to salvage a third-place finish in the WOBM Christmas Classic. Senior Tyler Hobbie added 15 points on five three-pointers, while sophomore Brad McCabe added 13 points and senior Seamus Hogan poured in 10 for Manasquan.

Manasquan hit 11 three-pointers as a team, with Jensen hitting four and McCabe knocking down two.

St. Rose also had four players in double-figures and hit 13 three-pointers as a team. Senior Billy Frost led the way with 18 points and four three-pointers while junior Jared Scheininger scored 15 points with three three-pointers. Senior Nick Paterno scored 14 points and senior Brendan Hueth chipped in 10 points in defeat.

(1) Mater Dei 55, (3) Sayreville 40

Elijah Barnes scored 18 points and earned tournamenr MVP honors as the Seraphs (5-0) beat the Bombers to clinch the Buc Classic title.

Third Place Game

(4) Central 56, (2) Middletown North 55

Denis Corbin scored just before the final buzzer and the Golden Eagles (5-1) took down the Lions (3-3) in the Buc Classic third place game. Senior Maks Gruszecki scored 17 points to lead Central, which trailed by 17 midway through the third an by five with 33 seconds left. Junior Sky Cherry led Middletown North with a game-high 22 points.

Fifth Place Game

(5) Red Bank 49, (6) St. John Vianney 35

Junior Devin Cooper scored 20 points and the Bucs (4-2) broke open a 22-22 game at halftime to beat the Lancers (2-4). Seniors Connor McLoone and Nasir Williams each added 11 points for Red Bank. Senior Dan Dinneny led St. John Vianney with 20 points.

Third Place Game

Senior Adi Palmer scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Piners (5-1) to a nailbiting win over Bloomfield Tech (3-4).

Fifth Place Game

(5) Neptune 53, (3) Ewing 50

Sophomore Dwaine Jones hit a three-pointer at the buzzer and the Scarlet Fliers (3-3) held off a Ewing comeback to beat the Blue Devils (3-4). Junior Jared Kimbrough led Neptune with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks, while senior Jules Calhoun added 12 points and six bouards in the win.

Seventh Place Game

(6) Long Branch 72, (8) Asbury Park 40

Junior Tyree Morris scored 25 points and the Green Wave (2-4) routed the Blue Bishops (1-4) to finish its stay in the Holiday Jubilee. Sophomore Marc Dennis added 17 points and junior Kevin Porch poured in 12 for Long Branch.

Juniors Ja'King Agostini and Javon Higgs each scored 11 points and senior Christian Braggs added 10 for Asbury Park.

 

Husky Holiday Classic

Ocean 41, Old Bridge 38

Junior Andrew Seager scored 17 points and took home tournament MVP honors as the Spartans (4-2) topped the Knights to win the Husky Classic championship. Senior Darius Brown added 13 points for Ocean.

Third Place Game

Union 67, Matawan 50

Junior Reggie Tawiah led three of his classmates in double-figures with 15 points but the Huskies (2-4) could not keep up with the Farmers. Michael Dunne added 14 points and Zaire Jackson added 13 in the loss.

(5) Howell 56, (7) Southern 42

Junior Nasiem Brantley scored 20 points and added seven rebounds and four steals to lead the Rebels (1-5) past the Rams (1-6) for their first win of the season. Junior Eddie Morales added 10 points for Howell.

Junior Jake DuBois led Southern with 14 points while senior Mark Valeriani poured in 11 in the loss.

Fifth Place Game

Ranney 76, Archbishop Stepinac (N.Y.) 75 (OT)

Bryan Antoine scored 24 points and Scottie Lewis posted 21 points and 12 rebounds as the Panthers (4-1) outlasted Archbishop Stepinac in overtime to finish the Battle at the Villages 2-1. Lewis was named to the all-tournament team.

Ahmadu Sarnor added 13 points and Alex Klatsky chipped in 11 for Ranney.

Trenton Crow was the only player to score more than seven points, finishing with 21 to lead Rejoice over the Cougars (4-2). Brendan Clarke and Ben Bosland each scored seven points to lead Colts Neck.
