Winning pitcher Zack Pericone plated the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh and catcher Andrew Beam gave his pitcher some breathing room with a two-run single in the same inning as the Patriots rallied for five runs over the final two innings to beat the Eagles.

Beam also tied the game in the sixth with a two-out, two-run single. Both RBI singles by Beam came on a 1-1 count with two out.

Ryan Ruziecki led off the bottom of the seventh against Pericone with a single but was later called out for baserunner interference  when he slid too far past the base while attempting to break up a double play.

Pericone was the third pitcher of the game for Freehold Township, which had to scramble after starter Mike Pirrotta left the game with two out in the third inning due to a back injury. Pirrotta struck out the side in order in the bottom of the first and finished with five strikeouts, but threw just seven of 19 pitches for strikes while laboring through the first two outs of the third inning.

Ruziecki singled home a run in the third and Jeremy Joyce opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the second.

Freehold Township will travel to play No. 2 Monmouth Regional in the round of 16 on Saturday.

Noah Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Pat Barrett and Zach Oddo each singled and drove in a run to help the Rams beat the Hawks in a tournament game for the second day in a row and advance to a round-of-16 date with No. 5 Lacey on Saturday.

Barrett was 1-for-2 and Oddo finished 1-for-2 for Southern. Marcos Matias also went 2-for-3 with a double in the win.

Andrew Luongo allowed a run on six hits and one walk over five innings while striking out three and throwing 76 pitches to earn the win. Colin Flood pitched the final two to nail down the save.

Kirk Montanye was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Derek Schmidt went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Manchester. Losing pitcher Gavin Pabst allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings while walking two and striking out four.
