Opening Round

(7) Manalapan 5, (26) Donovan Catholic 4

Stephen Carbonara hit a two-out, game-tying, three-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning and Nick Surhoff won the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth as the Braves came back from a four-run deficit in the seventh to beat the Griffins in extra innings.

Matt Klepper led off the eighth inning with a single and scored the winning run on Surhoff's single. Carbonara, Matt Rosenberg and Chris Rodriguez each had two hits for Manalapan.

John Pudder pitched a one-two-three eighth t earn the win after Jake Sadowitz allowed two earned runs over six innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

Steve Lazicki, Kyle Malloy and Mike Dimino all went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Donovan Catholic. Malloy took a shutout into the seventh inning before Manalapan rallied.

Manalapan will host No. 23 Shore in Saturday's round of 16.

(8) Red Bank Catholic 17, (25) Point Beach 1 (5 Innings)

The Caseys scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning to key a 19-hit attack that overwhelmed the Garnet Gulls. Red Bank Catholic hit three triples as a team and seven total extra-base hits.

Evan Madigan was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI, and Aaron Ahn was 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI. Doug Facendo, Mike Ianelli and Tom Merlo each added a triple, with Facendo and Ianelli checking in with two hits apiece.

Chris Bender and Anthony DeRosa each went 3-for-4 with a double, with Bender driving in three and DeRosa knocking in two. Mike Spinelli was also a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the win.

Red Bank Catholic will host Toms River South in the round of 16 on Saturday.

(9) Toms River South 6, (24) Raritan 1

Ray Liguori hit a two-run home run to help his own cause on the mound and the Indians scored five runs in the bottom of the third to pull away from the Rockets and advance to the round of 16 Saturday against the Rockets.

Liguori allowed a run on three hits with three strikeouts over five innings and keyed the five-run third with his two-run blast over the left-field fence that made the score 4-1. Ryan Shiffer broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI double and Jake Ryan capped the rally with a solo homer to center field.

Trevor Wagner crushed an opposite-field solo home run to right-center field in the sixth to cap the scoring for Toms River South.

Jon Rodriguez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the third, staking Raritan to a 1-0 lead.

(12) St. John Vianney 3, (21) Jackson Liberty 2

Victor Jamandron drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh and the Lancers walked off with a win over the Lions to set up a round-of-16 game at Wall on Saturday.

Ciaran Devenney was 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the first and scored the game-tying run in the fourth when he tripled and scored on an RBI single by Nick DeLuise.

Ryan Van Wickle hit an RBI single in Jackson Liberty's two-run first inning and Lancers starter John Michael Broderick settled down to allow one earned run on four hits over six innings. Dan Schirmacher threw a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win in relief.

(13) Howell 11, (20) St. Rose 1 (6 Innings)

Dan Matrisciano blasted two solo home runs and Connor Fey homered and drove in three runs to help lead the Rebels to a win over the Purple Roses. Howell will play No. 4 Jackson Memorial in the round of 16 on Saturday.

Rob Napolitano doubled twice and drove in two runs and John Stratton was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Connor Boyle was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Troy Miller added an RBI double for Howell.

Brian Chaballa pitched a six-hit complete game with five strikeouts and a walk to earn the win.

Joe Volpe went 2-for-3 with a double for St. Rose.

(17) Freehold 3, (16) Ocean 0

Dante Cuzzolino threw a six-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to help lead the Colonials to a win over the Spartans in the SCT opening round. Freehold will take on top-seeded Colts Neck in the round of 16 on Saturday.

Marco Meleo hit an RBI double in the fourth after James Manos broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single earlier in the inning. Cuzzolino also drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk.

(23) Shore 2, (10) Barnegat 1

James Kelly pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and the Blue Devils edged the Bengals to advance to the round of 16 against No. 7 Manalapan on Saturday.

Ryan Campi singled home Justin Halper in the second inning and the Blue Devils added a second unearned run in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Halper also doubled for Shore.

Tyler Hubley allowed two unearned runs on five hits in seven innings to take the hard-luck loss.

(11) Marlboro 7, (22) Pinelands 0

Andrew Nardi pitched a one-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts to help lead the Mustangs to an opening-round win over the Wildcats. Nardi took a no-hitter into the seventh before allowing an infield single. He als walked two in the win.

Phil Saglietto and Steve Santigate each went 2-for-3 with a double, with Saglietto scoring two runs and Santigate knocking one in. Mike Santaromita added a three-run double for Marlboro.

The Mustangs will play No. 6 Middletown South on Saturday in the round of 16.

(19) Brick 3, (14) Freehold Twp. 0

Brandon Weber and Nic Chirichello combined on a shutout and Matt Schleifer had an RBI single in Brick's three-run fourth inning to pace the Green Dragons to a win over the Patriots. Brick will travel to play No. 3 CBA in the round of 16 Saturday.

Weber allowed six hits and walked three over 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Chirichello with two out and two on in the sixth. Chiricello retired all four batters he faced to record the save.

John Prato was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Nick Moglia doubled for Brick.

Kyle Fenton allowed six hits and did not walk a batter while striking out eight in the complete-game loss. Matt Gorman went 2-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases for Freehold Township.

(15) Manasquan 6, (18) Mater Dei Prep 3

Brothers Jack and Tommy Sheehan combined for five RBI and three Manasquan pitchers combined on a two-hitter to lead the Warriors to a win over the Seraphs in the opening round. Manasquan will travel to play No. 2 Toms River North on Saturday in the round of 16.

Jack Sheehan went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Tommy Sheehan hit a two-run double in a four-run second inning for the Warriors.

Kyle Dowlen went 1-for-1 with two RBI for Mater Dei, driving in runs on a sac fly and an RBI single.

 

Regular Season

Class A South

Toms River East 11, Brick Memorial 10

Connor Robbins hit a grand slam and Chad Leonard belted a three-run home run during Toms River East's eight-run second inning, which lifted the Raiders to a win over the Mustangs.

Freshman Nick DeGennaro earned his first varsity win in relief for Toms River East. Nick Matteo hit a three-run home run for Brick Memorial.

No. 4 Jackson Memorial 12, Southern 0 (5 Innings)

Kyle Lona and Chris Hawryluk both homered to back starter Dave Harlinski, who pitched a two-hit shutout for his first win of the season to help the Jaguars coast past the Rams.

Sophomore Connor Takacs went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI in his varsity debut and fellow sophomore Dylan Kanner was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.

Kyle Johnson also went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI in the win.

 

Non-Division

No. 5 Wall 8, Middletown North 5

Nolan Cloney and Zach Wilson drove in three runs apiece and the Crimson Knights held off the Lions. Both finished 1-for-3 and Cloney hit his second home run of the season.

Sean Larkin was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Da Wondrack finished 2-for-3 with double and an RBI. Brendan Barcas was also 1-for-2 with three runs scored.

Anthony Vetrano, Kyle Capo, Walter Schopf and Tyler Ras all went 2-for-4 for Middletown North.

Rumson-Fair Haven 3, Point Boro 2 (9 Innings)

Morgan Maguire singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Bulldogs an extra-inning, walk-off win over the Panthers. Maguire struck out 11 in six innings of work in taking the no-decision on the mound.

Kenny Ferrare hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 2. Max Goione then took over on the mound and earned the win with three innings of relief.

Lacey 7, Manchester 5 (8 Innings)

Anthony Elefante went 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBI and the Lions outlasted the Hawks in extra innings. Jon Meany was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI for Manchester.

No. 6 Middletown South 10, No. 3 Toms River North 5
