Johnny Zega went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored and Nolan Pereless belted a three-run home run in support of winning pitcher Ian Scheuer as the Eagles coasted to a win over the Patriots. Scheuer allowed allowed one run on six hits and a walk over six innings and has now allowed only one run over his last 13 innings.

Southern 6, Brick 2 (5 Innings)

Jared Lubanski allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts in a five-inning complete game and the Rams topped the Green Dragons in a rain-shortened affair. Ronnie Velardi, Pat Barrett and Jared Haugland each went 2-for-3 at the plate and Barrett knocked in two of the three Southern runs in the third with a two-run single.

Carmen Sclafani, Nick Moglia and Matt Rosace each doubled for Brick.

No. 1 Toms River North 2, Lacey 0

Lacey sophomore Anthony Elefante threw a no-hitter, but it was not enough to best senior right-hander Brett Hyers and the Mariners, who remained unbeaten by escaping with a win over the Lions. Hyers went the distance to nail down the four-hit shutout while walking four and striking out five.

Toms River North scored two runs in the fourth, one of which was earned. Joe Venditto walked, moved to second when Joey Rose reached on an error and after both players moved up a base on a wild pitch, Mike Tiplady lifted a sacrifice fly to score Venditto with the deciding run. Rose later stole third base and scored on a wild pitch.

Elefante struck out six, walked five and hit a batter in his no-hit effort.
