Austin Markmann went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI and also quited the Patriots bats from the mound as the Eagles beat Freehold Township.

Markmann allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out six  to improve to 2-1.

Johnny Zega was 2-for-4 with three RBI, Ryan Ruziecki went 2-for-4 with a double and Zach Schild belted a solo home run for the Eagles. Tom Frandsen also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Manalapan 8, No. 2 Howell 4

Chris Winters and Chris Rodriguez combined for five hits, two doubles and four runs scored from the top two spots in the batting order and the Braves knocked off the Rebels to win their second straight game - both of which came against the No. 1 (CBA) and No. 2 team in the Shore Sports Network Top 10.

Winters finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Mike Molica also knocked in three runs in a 1-for-3 game at the plate and Stephen Hansen drove in two.

Manalapan right-hander and NJIT recruit Tyler Stafflinger worked five innings and outdueled St. John's recruit Brian Chabala for the win. Stafflinger struck out five, walked two and allowed two earned runs on seven hits. Chaballa allowed four runs on seven hits while walking none and striking out four in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Connor Fey went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Howell and Christian Gedell was 3-for-5 in the loss.

Jorden Jurkiewicz's fourth-inning single was the lone hit allowed by DeGennaro. Toms River East scored when Connor Robbins singled, moved to second on a Bailey Engelhardt sacrifice, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home on a squeeze bunt by Tyler Idzinski.

Dom Caraballo and Doug Facendo hit back-to-back doubles in the top of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and spark the Caseys to a win over the Cougars.

 

No. 10 Ocean 12, Red Bank 5

Tyler Rossback went 5-for-5 with two RBI to lead an 18-hit attack that propelled the Spartans to a win over the Bucs.

Kenny Pickett and Brian Kochenash each had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Pickett also scored a run and Kochenash scored two. Marc Chernin doubled and drove in three, while Brian Olesen went 2-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI.

Junior left-hander Phil DeMarco gave up five runs over the six innings, but still earned the win to improve to 4-0.

Sam Tekelch was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Jack Mangold went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Red Bank. Jack Stamer also went 1-for-2 with two RBI in the loss.

The top four hitters in the Point Beach order combined to go 9-for-14 with seven RBI as the Garnet Gulls pulled away for a win over the Griffins.

Joe DelGrippo led the way for Point Beach by going 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI. Kevin Donnelly and Ryan Franzoni each went 2-for-3, with Donnelly scoring two and driving in two and Franzoni doubling and driving in a run. Josh Yates also went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Vinny Storino and Kenny MacPherson each went 1-for-2 with a double for Point Beach, with MacPherson scoring twice and driving in a pair.

Donnelly threw four shutout innings to earn the win, allowing three hits and three walks while fanning three.
