Brandon Martorano hit a tie-breaking two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning and Luca Dalatri struck out a career-high 19 in a three-hit, eight-inning complete game as the Colts edged the Eagles for their sixth straight win.

Dalatri threw 122 pitches and allowed his first run of the season on a wild pitch with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Middletown South center fielder Tom Gannon led off the frame with a double to the left-field fence and scored the tying run when Dalatri uncorked a fastball over Martorano's head. The senior right-hander also walked his first batter of the season in that sixth inning.

For the season, Dalatri has now struck out 44 batters in 21 innings with just one walk and 12 hits allowed. The other two hits Dalatri allowed Wednesday were an infield single and a bunt single, both in the first inning.

 

Freehold Boro 5, Manalapan 0

Nick Zuppe pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out five as the Colonials (3-3, 2-3) blanked the Braves (2-4, 1-4).

Phil Marcantonio highlighted the Freehold offense with a two-run single in the sixth inning. Mark Costanzo gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead with an RBI groundout in the second inning.

John Pudder took the loss on the mound for Manalapan.

Middletown North 1, Freehold Twp. 0

Sophomore Tyler Ras threw a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts - his second straight complete game - and the Lions (1-4, 1-4) blanked the Patriots (0-5, 0-5) for their first win of the season. Ras walked three and allowed just a third-inning single to Ryan Cardone.

Seth Ziegler went 1-for-3 and scored on an RBI groundout by Brendan Doherty for the game's lone run in the fourth. Kyle Capo doubled and Cole Fluta was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Mike Pirrotta scattered eight hits and struck out five without walking a batter in taking the hard-luck, complete-game loss.

Brian Markoski doubled and scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning as the Mustangs (6-1, 4-0) pulled out a win over the Indians (3-3, 3-2) in a back-and-forth affair.

James Donlon was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and also threw out the potential tying run at the plate from right field after a single by Toms River South first baseman Connor Feeney.

Alec Merritt allowed five earned runs on six hits in six innings to pick up the win, while Ray Lutick nailed down the save with a scoreless seventh inning.

Trevor Wagner struck out 10 in five innings while walking seven in taking his second loss of the season. Wagner threw a no-hitter against Toms River North in his last start.

T.J. Scuderi and Tom Campo each went 1-for-4 with two RBI for Toms River South.

Winning pitcher Richard Joa delivered a two-out, walk-off RBI single in his lone at-bat of the game and the Huskies knocked off the Cougars. The loss was Colts Neck's first divisional loss since 2014.

Adam Elliot started the seventh-inning rally with a one-out single and catcher Chris Vetter followed with a single of his own to set the Huskies up with runners at the corners. Tim Cavrak came on in relief to notch a strikeout before Joa delivered the winning hit to score pinch-runner Antonio Martinez.

Vetter also threw three would-be base-stealers out from behind the plate.

Colts Neck tied the game in the top of the seventh when Mike Antico singled, stole second and scored on an error.

Josh Yates, Joe Delgrippo, Kevin Donnelly and Ryan Franzoni each doubled and were four of the six Point Beach players with multi-hit games as the Garnet Gulls took care of the Panthers in six innings.

Yates was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Delgrippo 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, Donnelly 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI, and Franzoni 2-4 with a run and three RBI. John Nista also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Tanner Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Donnelly struck out six in three no-hit innings to earn the win. James Geraghty was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and an RBI to lead Ranney.

Mike Falconetti hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a come-from-behind win for the Panthers (4-1, 4-1) over the Lions (2-3, 2-3). Faconetti finished 3-for-4.

Point Boro scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, with Thomas Paul driving in a run with an RBI single and Bill Feehan plating the tying run with a ground out.

Jackson Liberty outfielder Kenny Pommerencke cut down the potential winning run at home plate with to end the seventh.

Kyle Tavaska was 2-for-4 with a run scored and David Melfi and Ryan Van Wickle each went 1-for-3 with an RBI, with Melfi's coming on a double.

Zach Mann pitched a three-hit shutout and went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Griffins (3-2, 3-2) to a win over the Bengals (3-2, 3-2). Mann struck out four and walked two in his second mound victory of the season.

Bubba Goble drove in the game's lone run in the second inning and Nick Demaio also went 2-for-3 at the plate for Donovan Catholic.

Justin Diefenback went the distance for Barnegat and scattered seven hits while striking out one and limiting the Griffins to no walks. The lone run off Diefenbach was unearned.
