Senior right-hander Mike Pirrotta pitched five one-hit, shutout innings and drove in junior Ryan Ford with the lone run of the game as the Patriots (2-2, 1-2) became the first team to beat the Colts (5-1, 3-1) this season.

Pirrotta worked around four walks and two hit batters while striking out three and threw 95 pitches. He checked in with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to score Ford, who was hit by a pitch to reach.

Senior Zach Pericone pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout to earn the save. Junior Blaise Venancio took the hard-luck loss for CBA and threw 76 pitches.

Sophomore Aedan Martin hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning off All-Shore left-hander Dan Chiusano to send the game into extra innings, but the Colonials scored two in the top of the ninth to pull out the road win over the Scarlet Fliers in Class A North.

No. 1 Toms River North 2, Brick Memorial 0

Junior right-hander Craig Larsen pitched a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and one walk and the Mariners 3-1, 2-1) bounced back from a loss to Southern by blanking the Mustangs (1-5, 1-3).

Senior Mike Nyisztor went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Toms River North lineup and senior Ian Mindas also went 2-for-3.

Junior Trevor Sherman limited Toms River North to two earned runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Senior Ben Porpora hit a tie-breaking solo home run in the bottom of the six and the Eagles (3-1, 1-1) edged the Crimson Knights (3-2, 2-2). Porpora finished 2-for-3 with a double while junior Joe Sprake also went 2-for-3 and stole a base.

Sophomore Robby Zega earned his second win of the year on the mound by allowing one earned run on two hits and five walks while fanning two on 89 pitches. Sophomore Jack Roesch pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Sophomore Grant Schulman went the distance for Wall on the mound, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and a walk. Junior Andy Lenneper went 1-for-2 for Wall with a walk.

Sophomore Jack Felipe plated the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Hawks (4-2, 4-0) walked off with a win over the Bengals (1-4, 1-3). Felipe finished 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Senior Joe Felipe also went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored while senior Matt Migliaccio finished 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Freshman James Johns scored a pair of runs during a 1-for-4 game at the plate.

Senior Gavin Pabst allowed two earned runs on eight hits with a pair of walks and a pair of strikeouts. He threw 93 pitches while pitching the full seven innings and picking up the win.

Junior Justin Diefenbach allowed two earned runs over six innings for Barnegat and left in position to win the game after throwing 95 pitches. Diefenbach allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one and also went 1-for-4 with two runs scored at the plate. Liam Corbett went 2-for-3 and Eric Becker was 1-for-3 with two RBI in the loss.

Sophomore Joey Ventresca pitched a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and no walks and the Wildcats (4-1, 4-0) blanked the Panthers (1-5, 0-4) to win their fourth straight B South game to open the year. Ventresca needed 105 pitches to navigate through seven innings and also went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Peter Hammond led the offense by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Senior Sean O'Rourke was 2-for-3 with an RBI and sophomore Anthony Diaz finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Freshman Nick Guzzi took the loss for Point Boro, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and a walk while walking one and striking out five over five innings and 72 pitches.

Senior left-hander Mike Soldo struck out 17 in a two-hitter and added an RBI single to lead the Green Dragons to a win. Senior Kenny Bala also cracked a solo home run for Brick.

 

At St. Petersburg, Fla.

John Champe (Va.) 11, Marlboro 9

Junior Justin Levito doubled and drove in two runs and senior Jared Wright was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI but the Mustangs pitching could not hold down Champe's lineup.

Starter Noah Hutter gave up four unearned runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings and took a no-decision. He struck out five and walked four.
