Senior Kyle Fenton threw a two-hit shutout with no walks and seven strikeouts and also drove in the first Freehold Township run to help the Patriots beat the Spartans and advance to Saturday's MCT quarterfinals against No. 13 Wall.

Senior catcher Joe Silvestrone launched a one-out triple to the fence in dead center field in the top of the fifth and scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly to center by Fenton.

Second baseman Rob Eriksen added a sacrifice fly in the sixth and the Patriots put the game away with four runs in the seventh, highlighted by an RBI double by junior first baseman John Carroll.

 

Regular Season

Class A South

No. 8 Toms River South 12, Southern 10

Corey Nase went 4-for-5 with three RBI and Jake Ryan hit a two-run double in the seventh to push across a pair of key insurance runs as the Indians topped the Rams.

Sophomore left-hander Justi Fall struck out six and allowed on earned run over five innings to earn the win.

Joey Robertson and Ronnie Velardi each went 3-for-5 with three RBI for Southern.

No. 2 Toms River North 12, Brick 3

Joe Venditto went 4-for-5 with four RBI and Joe Rose was 2-for-4 with a home run to help the Mariners coast to a win over the Green Dragons. Brandon Fischer also went 3-for-5 for Toms River North.

Doug Molnar earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out six.

Brick Memorial 5, Toms River East 4

Corey Cathey singled home Kyle McCabe with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and the Mustangs overcame a 4-3 Toms River East lead heading into the final inning to beat the Raiders.

Steve Schocket led off the bottom the seventh with a single and pinch runner Anthony LaBorte scored after stealing second and third base and advancing home when the throw to third bounced into left field.

Justin Bates later singled with two out and McCabe came on as the courtesy runner and stole second base to set up Cathey with the tying run in scoring position. Cathey finished 2-for-3, as did Nick Matteo, who also doubled and drove in two runs in the win.

Chris Sullivan threw two scoreless innings while striking out three to earn the win.

Shortstop Jon Meola went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored for Toms River East.

No. 7 Jackson Memorial 15, Lacey 0

Senior Brandon Janofsky hit two home runs, scored three times and drove in three runs to key an offensive explosion by the Jaguars in a win over the Lions. Senior Rich Rountree also went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored for Jackson Memorial, which scored nine runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away.

Senior Ryan Takacs threw five shutout innings for the win, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out five.

 

Class B Central

St. Rose 18, Keansburg 0 (5 Innings)

Kyle Missry homered and tripled to lead a Purple Roses outburst that overwhelmed the Titans. Sophomore Brandon Mology threw a five-inning, three-hit shutout with a walk and seven strikeouts to earn the win.

Travis Cloney, Mike Gowen and Riley Maypother all went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, with Gowen hitting two doubles and driving in four and Cloney and Maypother each driving in two. Cloney also tripled, as did senior John Kussmaul in a 1-for-3 game that also included two runs scored and an RBI.

Ranney 4, Keyport 3

John Mejia went the distance and struck out seven to earn the win and the Panthers edged the Red Raiders for their second straight win. Mejia also went 1-for-2 with a run scored and Prakhar Nair was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Ranney.

Rob Hila went 3-for-3 with a double to lead Keyport.

Mater Dei Prep 7, Point Beach 3

Ryan Fanner hit two RBI doubles and Liam Olausen added a key two-run double as the Seraphs jumped on top of the Garnet Gulls and held on for their second win over Point Beach this season.

Fanner finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI and Point Beach took a 7-0 lead inthe fifth.

Starter Vinny Stanziale pitched into the seventh before giving way to Nick Roditis, who induced three straight pop-outs with the bases loaded and none out to end the game and earn the save.

Point Beach scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning, with Antonio Garcia and Andrew Allegretta picking up RBI singles. Stanziale induced a ground ball double play to allow a third run to score and record the first two outs and stranded a runner on third by inducing an inning-ending flyout by Joe DelGrippo.

Asbury Park 17, Henry Hudson 6 (6 Innings)

Sal Swain and Keshaun Samuels both homered and the Blue Bishops rolled past the Admirals for their first win of the season. Swain finished 2-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI, while Samuels was 1-for-2 with four RBI.

Senior Jarrod Fletcher also went 1-for-2 with three RBI, while freshmen Kyrie Moore and Luis Rodriguez each added two hits.

Brendan Carlstrom led Henry Hudson with a double, run scored and an RBI in a 1-for-3 day at the plate.

 

Class B South

Pinelands 5, Manchester 4

Patrick Spagnola keyed a five-run third inning with a three-run home run and the Wildcats held off the Hawks. Jared Strang added an RBI double in the inning for Pinelands.

Jared Miller allowed four unearned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five in earning the win.

Mark Wernoch went 2-for-3 with a two-run single in a four-run fifth for Manchester, while Ryan Vanderham was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the loss.

Jackson Liberty 9, Donovan Catholic 0

Howard Taylor threw a three-hit shutout and the Lions blew the game open with eight runs in the sixth inning on the way to a second win over the Griffins in as many days. Taylor struck out eight and walked two in the shutout performance.

Shortstop Sean Galvin hit a two-run double in the eight-run sixth, while Dylan Milleman, Mike Zak and Matt Pinto each added an RBI single in the big inning. Brandon Pallante went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and he doubled to set up one of those runs that gave Jackson Liberty a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Ryan Van Wickle also went 2-for-3 with and RBI and Pinto finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Central 4, Barnegat 1
