Freehold 7, Manalapan 5 (8 Innings)

Chris Cassandra hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the eighth and the Colonials (4-4, 2-3) rallied from a four-run deficit to beat the Braves (4-4, 1-4). Freehold scored four runs in the top of the sixth to erase a 5-1 lead, highlighted by a two-run double by junior Ryan Yee.

Dante Cuzzolino added two hits, including an RBI double in the first inning, for Freehold. Matt Klepper was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI for Manalapan, while Ryan McGrane added an RBI double in the fourth for the Braves.

No. 4 Marlboro 7, Howell 1

Matt Discuillo went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored in support of winning pitcher Steve Epstein as the Mustangs (6-1, 4-1) topped the Rebels (4-2, 4-2). Seniors Mike Santaromita and Phil Saglietto each went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Marlboro, with Saglietto adding an RBI. Noah Thomas also doubled, drove in a run and scored a run in the win.

Epstein allowed a run on five hits while walking none and striking out six to earn the win.

Freehold Twp. 8, Middletown North 5

Junior John Carroll was 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI to help lead the Patriots (4-3, 2-3) to a win over the Lions (3-2, 2-2). Kyle Fenton also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base, while Ralph Gambino was 1-for-2 with two runs in the win.

Sophomore Mike Pirrotta went the distance on the mound for the Patriots to earn the win. Cole Fluta went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for Middletown North.

Class A Central

St. John Vianney 11, Raritan 1 (6 Innings)

Junior Victor Jamandron went 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI and Zach Richards clubbed a homer in a 2-for-3, three-RBI day to help the Lancers (4-1, 3-1) snap a three-game winning streak by the Rockets (4-2, 2-2).

Ciaran Devenney also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Chris Cerniglia was 1-for-4 with two RBI for St. John Vianney. Junior Joey Raia pitched five shutout innings of two-hit ball to earn his first win.

Shore 3, Holmdel 2

Senior Justin Halper plated the game-winning run in the top of the seventh and the Blue Devils (3-3, 3-2) edged the Hornets (1-4, 0-4) behind senior starter James Kelly, who allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings while striking out seven.

Monmouth 10, Rumson-Fair Haven 2

Senior Jimmy Green hit a grand slam and finished 3-for-4 withh six RBI to lead the Falcons (4-1, 4-0) to a win over the Bulldogs (1-3, 1-3) and remain unbeaten in divisional play. Junior Christian Hoplock fired a complete game to earn the win.

Max Goione hit a two-run homer to account for Rumson's scoring.

 

Class B North

No. 2 Colts Neck 7, Red Bank 4

Junior Mike Antico went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and three stolen bases to back starter Mike D'Ottavio as the Cougars (7-0, 4-0) beat the Bucs (1-5, 1-4) to remain unbeaten. D'Ottavio pitched 6 2/3 innings for the win, allowing four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Jordan Gonzalez also drove in two runs in the win.

Neptune 10, Long Branch 0 (6 Innings)

Senior Hunter Daly fired a five-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and helped his cause by going 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate as the Scarlet Fliers (1-5, 1-4) topped the Green Wave (1-6, 1-4) for their first win of the season. Sophomore Peter Marruca was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI to help spark the Neptune offense.

Matawan 2, No. 7 Ocean 0

Senior Matt Esposito went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to back junior starter Adam Elliott as the Huskies (3-3, 3-2) knocked off the previously unbeaten Spartans (6-1, 1-1). Junior Colin Thompson earned the save in relief of Elliott, who allowed two hits and four walks while striking out eight over 6 1/3 scoreless innings.

Senior Nick Smith was also 1-for-2 with a double and senior Billy Rodriguez made a diving catch in the seventh inning to help seal the victory.

No. 6 Red Bank Catholic 5, Wall 4

Junior Doug Facendo hit an RBI double to stake RBC to an early 5-0 lead and the Caseys (5-0, 4-0) held on behind 2 1/3 scoreless innings by junior John Poccia to beat the Crimson Knights (3-3, 2-2) and remain unbeaten.

Mike Ianelli also added an RBI single for RBC, which scored five runs in the first three innings to go up 5-0.

 

Class B Central

Keyport 8, Keansburg 4

Justice Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead the offense and sophomore Christian Smith worked 6 2/3 innings for the win as the Red Raiders (3-3, 3-3) topped the Titans (3-2, 3-2). Smith struck out nine, walked two and allowed three earned runs on six hits.

Steven Chandler went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Kyle Mitchell was 1-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in the win.

Ian Terry was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI while Justin Alessi was 2-for-4 for Keansburg.

Mater Dei Prep 6, Point Beach 2

Junior Joe Ruth took a shutout into the seventh inning and finished off a complete-game four-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Seraphs (4-1, 4-0) beat the Garnet Gulls (4-1, 4-1) to move into sole possession of first place in the early stages of the Class B Central race.

Ruth also went 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate, while Patric Donohue was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Nick Roditis was also 2-for-3 with an RBI for Mater Dei, while Cole Hardy finished 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the win.

Antonio Garcia was 2-for-4 with a double, while Joe Delgrippo went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Point Beach.
