Class A North

No. 9 Freehold Boro 2, No. 1 CBA 1

Senior right-hander Steve Rullo pitched a complete-game, four-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks to improve to 3-0 vs. CBA in the last two years and deliver the Colonials a win over the Colts.

After CBA took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Freehold Boro struck for its two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nick LaMorte pulled the Colonials even with an RBI double and Phil Marcantonio put the home team in front with a sacrifice fly, leaving Rullo and Freehold's error-free defense to do the rest.

Chris Cassandra also went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Colonials.

CBA senior catcher Brandon Martorano hit a double in the first inning for his 100th career hit.

Freehold Twp. 4, No. 6 Howell 2

Sophomore Ryan Ford pitched a complete game and went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Patriots to a win over the Rebels. Ford allowed two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Lane Shapiro was 3-for-3 with a run scored, while John Carroll and Joe Romandowski each went 1-for-3 with a run scored, including a double for Romandowski. Ryan Cardone and Matt Gorman each added a hit and an RBI for Freehold Township.

Justin Steel went 2-for-3 with a solo home run to lead Howell. Donovan O'Malley lasted five innings in taking the loss and just two of the four runs charged to him were earned.

Manalapan 7, No. 7 Marlboro 7 (Suspended, Top 7th - Rain)

The Braves and Mustangs were tied after six innings when their Class A North game was suspended due to rain. Manalapan and Marlboro will pick up the game from the top of the seventh inning on Tuesday.

Mater Dei Prep 12, Point Beach 10

Nick Massaro went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Joe Ruth was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Seraphs to a win over the Garnet Gulls, Mater Dei's seventh straight victory.

Cole Hardy also went 1-for-1 with a double, three walks, two runs scored and two RBI. Vinny Stanziale lasted 5 1/3 innings to earn the win and Matt Paciulli closed out the game after the Garnet Gulls rallied for seven runs in the sixth to cut the Mater Dei lead to 12-10.

John VanSchoick and John Nista each doubled for Point Beach, with Nista finishing 1-for-2 with two RBI and VanSchoick going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Joe DelGrippo and Josh Yates each drove in two runs, with Yates finishing 1-for-4 and DelGrippo going 1-for-3.
