Class A North

No. 1 CBA 6, Freehold Twp. 3 (8 Innings)

The Colts scratched the tying run across in the top of the seventh and plated three in the top of the eighth to deny the Patriots their first win in Class A North divisional play.

Luke Chece reached on an error and scored the tying run on a double play in the seventh, with a single by Mike Triandafellos mixed in. Nick Hohenstein gave CBA the lead with an RBI fielder's choice to score Brandon Martorano and winning Kenny Campbell followed with an RBI triple to plate Luca Dalatri.

Campbell allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in seven innings of work. Joe Gargana came on for the eighth and struck out the side around a single and a walk

Both Martorano and Dalatri singled to begin the eighth. Martorano finished 1-for-3 while Dalatri was 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the third. Cid Porter also went 2-for-5 for CBA with a run scored.

Matt Gorman went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, while John Carroll was 2-for-4 for Freehold Township. Ryan Ford gave Freehold Township a 3-2 lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly. Ford also held CBA to three unearned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings, all while making his first varsity start.

Junior left-hander Dan Chiusano twirled a shutout and the Colonials blanked the Mustangs.

No. 4 Middletown South 2, Manalapan 1

Johnny Zega hit a tie-breaking, solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Eagles the lead for good, denying Manalapan three consecutive wins against teams ranked in the top four of the Shore Sports Network Top 10.

Zach Schild also doubled for Middletown South, while Ryan Ruziecki went 1-for-3 with the other RBI. Senior left-hander Ian Scheuer allowed one unearned run on eight hits while striking out seven and earning the win.

Stephen Carbonara drove in the lone Manalapan run, while Stephen Hansen was 2-for-3 and Mike Mollica 2-for-2. Hansen went the distance on the mound, surrendering two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking none.

Nick Reyes capped a five-RBI game with the go-ahead two-run single in the top of the seventh inning and Nick Stephan induced a game-ending double play with the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the inning as the Mustangs topped the Mariners in a slugfest.

John Nista went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and three RBI to lead a 19-hit attack that helped the Garnet Gulls handle the Blue Bishops.

John VanSchoick was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and three RBI, Vinny Storino finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and three RBI, and Tanner Smith went 2-for-4 with a triple three runs and two RBI.

Kevin Donnelly was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI, while Kenny MacPherson also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Point Beach.

Chris Russo allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out nine to earn the win.

Sebastian Severio went 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the Panthers onslaught that overwhelmed the Hawks for the second time this season. Josiah Gliddon was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Sam Monaco went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the win, while Bill Feehan also went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Mike Falconetti lasted four innings to earned the win, scattering seven his and a pair of walks while striking out four.

Jon Meaney and P.J. Martinez each went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Manchester, while Matt Bryant was 2-for-3 with a double. Ryan Vanderham also doubled and scored a run for the Hawks.
