Class A North

No. 3 CBA 4, Howell 0

Junior right-hander Luca Dalatri struck out a career-high 14 and walked just one in a three-hit shutout and the Colts (7-1, 4-1) blanked the Rebels (4-3, 4-3).

Junior catcher Brandon Martorano went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while senior John Moschella was 3-for-3. Cid Porter went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for CBA, while Shane Turk singled in a run and Andrew Buccellatto doubled and scored a run in the win.

Senior Connor Boyle went 2-for-3 against Dalatri to lead Howell.

Manalapan 12, Middletown North 2

Junior Tyler Stafflinger allowed two hits and struck out eight over 5 1/3 innings to pick up his first varsity win as the Braves (5-4, 2-4) pulled away to rout the Lions (3-3, 2-3). Jake Sadowitz went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while Ryan McGrane was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Chris Rodriguez also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Manalapan.

Middletown South 2, Freehold 0

Junior Ian Scheuer fired a two-hit shutout and senior Nolan Pereless broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to help the Eagles (3-5, 3-4) top the Colonials (4-5, 2-4). Ben Porpora went 2-for-3 and scored Middletown South's second run on a double-steal in the sixth. Zach Schild finished 2-for-2 in the win.

No. 4 Marlboro 4, Freehold Twp. 3 (8 Innings)

Sophomore Will Trochiano went 1-for-3 with two RBI, including the game-winning RBI fielder's choice ground out in the top of the eighth inning, and the Mustangs (7-1, 5-1) edged the Patriots (4-4, 2-4) to remain in the top spot in Class A North.

Senior left-hander Andrew Nardi threw two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win after junior right-hander Jeremy Dyzenhaus allowed three runs - two earned - on three hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings. Freehold Township senior Kyle Fenton tied the game at three in the sixth with a two-out, two-run triple.

Pete Nielsen allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in taking the no-decision for Freehold Township. Jeremy Gerringer went 1-for-2 with a run scored for Marlboro, while Joe Silvestrone was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base for Freehold Township.

 

Class A Central

Holmdel 7, Raritan 4

Tyler Fischer allowed one earned run and struck out six over six strong innings and Matt Fanelli drove in four runs to help lead the Hornets (2-5, 1-5) to a win over the Rockets (4-3, 2-3), their first Class A Central win of the season.

D.J. Goins also plated two runs and Will Van Name was 1-for-2 with three runs scored for Holmdel.

St. John Vianney 9, Monmouth 1

Senior right-hander Dan Schirmacher allowed one unearned run on five hits and two walks while striking out 10 and the Lancers (5-1, 4-1) handed the Falcons (4-2, 4-1) their first Class A Central divisional loss. Schirmacher's 10th strikeout was the 100th of his career.

Nick DeLuise went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three stolen bases to lead a 16-hit St. John Vianney attack that also stole eight bases and benefited from seven Monmouth errors. Nick Gugliara went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three stolen bases and Chris Cerniglia was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Dan Gesior also went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the win.

Garrhet Reedy went 2-for-2 with a double to headline the Monmouth offense.

Manasquan 3, Rumson-Fair Haven 2 (8 Innings)

Senior Matt Edwards singled home Adam Schreck from second base with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Warriors (3-2, 3-2) walked off with a win over the Bulldogs (1-4, 1-4). Schreck was awarded home plate on defensive interference to end the game.

Edwards finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and starting pitcher Tommy Sheehan drove in the game-tying run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Sheehan allowed two runs on five hits while striking out nine in seven innings before Jack Sheehan came on to strike out three in a scoreless eighth to earn the win.

Rumson senior right-hander Morgan Maguire allowed two runs and struck out nine in six innings in taking the no-decision. Maguire also added an RBI single in the sixth, while senior Max Goione went 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate for the Bulldogs.

 

Class B North

No. 6 Red Bank Catholic 10, Long Branch 0 (5 Innings)

Evan Madigan went 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases to lead the offensive effort as the Caseys (6-0, 5-0) topped the Green Wave (1-7, 1-5) to remain undefeated. Senior Chris Bender was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored, while Anthony DeRosa was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jack Smith and Tom Montano combined on a four-hit, five-inning shutout, with Montano taking the win.

Red Bank 8, Matawan 6 (8 Innings)

Matt Santos and Nick Massa each drove in a run in the seventh and the Bucs (2-5, 2-4) plated two runs on an error in the eighth before adding a third in the inning to beat the Huskies (3-4, 3-3) in a back-and-forth, extra inning game.

Santos plated a run with a squeeze bunt to tie the game at 4 in the seventh inning and Santos ripped a go-ahead RBI single to make it 5-4. Matt Esposito tied the game in the bottom of the seventh for Matawan with an RBI fielder's choice and the Huskies loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but could not get more than one run.

Isaiah Sesito went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored to lead Red Bank, while Matt Reardon pitched the final two innings to earn the win.

Ocean 10, Neptune 1

Jake Talarico pitched a one-hitter and Kenny Pickett belted his first career home run as the Spartans (7-1, 2-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season by beating the Scarlet Fliers (1-6, 1-5). Pickett drove in three runs in the game, while Anthony Tedesco and Sam Maxwell each had two hits and Brian Olesen drove in two runs for Ocean.

No. 2 Colts Neck 4, Wall 2

Chris Murphy allowed one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts over six innings and the Cougars (8-0, 5-0) edged the Crimson Knights (3-4, 2-3) for their eighth straight win to open the season.

Senior Tyler Kay went 2-for-3 with a run scored at the plate to lead the Colts Neck offense, while Nick Umbro was 1-for-2 with two RBI, including an RBI single in the fourth.

 

Class B South

Donovan Catholic 5, Manchester 1

Junior Kyle Malloy allowed one unearned run and struck out four while pitching a one-hit, no-walk gem that lifted the Griffins (5-2, 3-1) to a win over the Hawks (3-3, 3-3). In its last five games, Donovan Catholic pitching has allowed just one earned run.

Russ Petranto, Charlie Dimino, Matt Drake and Mike Marron each went 2-for-3, with Drake collecting two doubles and Dimino, Drake and Marron each adding an RBI. Petranto also scored two runs.

Central 9, Lakewood 6

Freshman Tom Ruscitti doubled in two runs in a three-run first and Frank Rose reached base in all four of his trips to the plate to help the Golden Eagles (4-2, 3-2) beat the Piners (1-5, 1-5). Rose finished 1-for-1 with three walks, three runs scored and an RBI double in the fourth, while junior Matt Aires went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Junior Joe Basset allowed two runs in four innings with five strikeouts to earn the win.
