Class A North

No. 4 Freehold Boro 2, Colts Neck 1

Junior Dane Della Valle allowed one unearned run on five hits over seven innings to earn his second win in as many starts and the Colonials squeaked past the Cougars. Della Valle struck out six and walked a pair while firing 98 pitches.

Nick Aiello and Phil Marcantonio had the lone two hits for Freehold against Colts Neck senior starter Dillon Pellecchia, with Aiello driving in a run as well. Pellecchia walked one, struck out one and needed only 66 pitches to get through his six innings. Both runs charged to the right-hander were unearned.

Freehold Twp. 11, Howell 9

Junior Bryan Reed hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the eighth and pitched the final three innings to earn the win on the mound as the Patriots (3-2, 2-2) rallied from an early 8-2 deficit and a one-run deficit in the seventh to beat the Rebels (2-3, 1-3) in another wild game at Howell High School.

Reed allowed an inherited runner to score upon taking over with none out in the bottom of the sixth, but did not allow a run of his own during his three innings of work.

Junior Luke Michman hit a game-tying, pinch-hit, three-run home run in the top of the sixth to knot the score a 8-8, which completed Freehold Township's comeback after Howell had built an 8-2 advantage through the end of the third.

Senior Mike Pirrotta doubled in two runs in the top of the fourth and junior Kevin Goodman knocked in a run with an RBI single later in the inning to pull the Patriots within 8-5.

Howell took a 9-8 lead in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by junior Eddie Morales with nobody out. The Rebels jumped out to the early six-run lead behind doubles by Morales and Nick Ruszczyk and a three-run home run by senior J.P. Traynor.

Junior Ryan Ford drove in a run with a double earlier in the game for Freehold Township and senior Tyler Hayden and junior Nick Lodispoto combined for three innings of one-run middle relief to keep the Patriots in the game.
