Senior Zac deRocco threw six shutout innings and went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to help lead the Eagles to a win over the Rams. Middletown South will play in Tuesday's sectional semifinals against the winner of Friday's game between No. 8 Ocean and No. 1 Northern Burlington, which was postponed due to rain on Thursday.

Senior Nolan Pereless also went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Middletown South, which built a 9-0 lead prior to the seventh.

Central Jersey Group I

(6) Shore 12, (14) Bound Brook 2 (5 Innings)

Devin McLaughlin homered, drove in five runs and pitched a perfect fourth inning to earn the win in relief as the Blue Devils pulled away with eight runs in the fifth to beat the Crusaders and advance to the sectional semifinals Tuesday against No. 7 Florence.

McLaughlin finished 2-for-3, including a three-run home run in the fourth that the junior hit right after retiring the side in order in the top of the frame.

Matt McCarthy was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI, while Justin Halper finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Michael O'Halloran was also 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Shore.

Chas Breithoff lasted three innings on the mound before giving way to McLaughlin, while James Kelly threw a scoreless fifth.

 

South Jersey Group IV

Opening Round

South Jersey Non-Public A

(4) CBA 6, (13) Camden Catholic 0

Luca Dalatri homered, doubled and drove in five runs to back starter Mike Garvey, who threw a five-hit shutout to lead the Colts to a win over the Irish in the South Jersey Non-Public A opening round.

Dalatri hit a three-run home run in the first, laced an RBI double in the second and hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth while going 2-for-3. Andrew Buccellatto also went 2-for-3 for CBA.

Garvey struck out six and did not issue a walk, improving his record to 5-1.

CBA will play the winner of Friday's game between No. 5 St. Augustine and No. 12 Donovan Catholic in the sectional quarterfinals on Tuesday.

(3) Red Bank Catholic 6, (14) Union Catholic 3

Sophomore Anthony DeRosa and junior Evan Madigan each went 2-for-3 with a triple and the Caseys beat the Vikings to advance to the sectional semifinals Tuesday against No. 6 Bishop Eustace.

DeRosa also doubled, scored a run and drove in a run, while Madigan scored two runs, drove one in and stole two bases. Chris Bender added a 2-for-4 day at the plate for Red Bank Catholic.

Jack Ipsen threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts to earn the win.

(12) Donovan Catholic at (5) St. Augustine - PPD, Friday, 4 p.m.

 

South Jersey Non-Public B

(5) Mater Dei Prep 5, (12) Rutgers Prep 4

Mater Dei took the lead on a two-run throwing error by Rutgers Prep starter P.J. Strahm on a slow-roller by Liam Olausen in the fourth inning and the Seraphs held on for a win over Rutgers Prep. Mater Dei will play No. 4 Marist in Tuesday's sectional quarterfinals.

Patric Donohue scored on a throwing error at third base in the fifth and Ryan Fanner capped the scoring with an RBI single. Donohue attempted to advance from first to third on a single by Vincenzo Mezzacappa and the throw skipped out of play to allow Donohue to score and Mezzacappa to take second. Fanner followed with his RBI single to plate Mezzacappa.

Vinny Stanziale worked the first five innings to pick up the win and Nick Roditis closed out his third save of the year by retiring the final six batters in order. Stanziale capped his day by escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth that he wiggled out of with a pop up to first, a strikeout and a fly ball to center field to end threat.
