Junior Nick Lodispoto went 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base to pace the offense.

Senior second baseman Matt Shiffer went 3-for-4 with six RBI and junior right-hander T.J. Scuderi struck out six batters in 3 2/3 innings to earn the win as the Indians defeated the Bengals in the night-cap of an Autism Awareness triple-header at Toms River High School South.

After Shiffer highlighted a three-run first inning with a two-run single, the Indians exploded for 10 runs in the third inning, during which they sent 15 batters to the plate. Shiffer kept up his hitting by twice stroking two-run singles.

Senior Justin Fall added a three-run triple off the center field wall for the Indians. Senior Jared Kwicinski was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and senior Dylan Danelson was 2-for-3 with a RBI double and a RBI single.

 

At Wall

Wall 12, Pinelands 1 (5 Innings)

Senior Kevin Lenneper doubled and drove in three runs and sophomore Joe Shimko finished 2-for-3 with two RBI as the Crimson Knights (2-1) handled the Wildcats (2-1) in five innings.

Senior Shane Richey was 1-for-3 with three runs scored and junior Andy Lenneper also doubled and scored two runs for Wall.

Ryan Napolitano allowed one unearned run over 4 2/3 innings and 70 pitches to earn the win. Napolitano surrendered only three hits and two walks while striking out five.

Sophomore David Melfi doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning and junior Matt Pickus closed out the game with a two-inning save as the Lions held on to beat the Jaguars for the third time in four years.

 

Donovan Catholic 7, Brick Memorial 3

Junior Nick DeMaio homered and senior Zach Mann added a three-run double to help spark the Griffins (2-1) to a win over the Mustangs (0-3).

Junior Jonathan Poplowski limited Brick Memorial  to one earned run on six hits and two walks while striking out five in 5 1/3 innings. Poplowski gave way to Mann after throwing 93 pitches and Mann struck out four while earning the five-out save in 32 pitches.

Mann hit his three-run double after escaping the sixth, followed by a two-run homer by senior Anthony Laborte to pull Brick Memorial within 7-3 in the seventh.

Senior Gerard Russo also went 1-for-2 with a two-run double for Donovan Catholic.

Red Bank 10, Manchester 4

Senior John Juco hit a grand slam to cap an eight-run seventh inning for Red Bank that propelled the Bucs (2-1) to a come-from-behind win over the Hawks (2-1). Juco finished 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored and led off the seventh with a walk.

All eight of Red Bank's runs in the seventh came with two out and the tying runs scored thanks to three errors. Juco stole third and scored on an errant throw and back-to-back errors on the infield.

Sophomore Aidan Kelly gave Red Bank a 5-4 lead with an RBI single and senior Jack Mangold also delivered an RBI single to set up Juco for the final blow.

Mangold finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Senior Josh Horowitz hung in the game for six innings on the mound, long enough to earn the win. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four and throwing 104 pitches.

Senior Joe Felipe hit a two-run home run in the second inning and sophomore Jack Felipe tripled and drove in a run. Senior Steven Rodriguez also finished 2-for-4 with a double.

 

At Point Boro

CBA 9, Point Boro 2

Junior Nick Hohenstein went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI and the Colts (3-0) rolled to a win over the Panthers (0-3), their third straight to open the season.

Sophomore Spencer Bauer also went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and junior Jack Harnisch was 2-for-3 with two doubles to help lead the scoring attack. Senior Joe Sparber also went 1-for-3 with an RBI double for CBA.

Junior Andrea Dalatri pitched four innings to secure the win, allowing one earned run on four hits while walking one and striking out two. Dalatri threw 52 pitches before giving the ball to junior Jake Lawrie for the fifth inning. Lawrie, Bauer and junior Matt Barnes combined for three perfect innings, with Bauer striking out the side in the sixth.

Senior Josiah Gliddon threw 67 pitches in three innings while suffering the loss on the mound. The Panthers senior also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the loss.

 

Lacey 3, Point Beach 2

Senior Don Zellman doubled inthe winning run in the top of the seventh inning and the Lions (3-0) edged the Garnet Gulls (0-2) and extend their perfect start despite squandering a win for senior right-hander Anthony Elefante.

Elefante struck out 12 with no walks and allowed only two hits in five shutout innings. The senior departed after throwing 70 pitches, but Point Beach rallied against senior Jake Capatasto in the bottom of the sixth. Junior John Nista and Kenny MacPherson came through with RBI singles in consecutive at-bats to pull Point Beach even.

Elefante also went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and junior Keith Apostolos was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in the win.

Nista allowed two runs on just two hits and three walks over six innings while striking out seven and tossing 108 pitches. MacPherson, meanwhile, finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

 

At Howell

Howell 14, Holmdel 13

Junior Mike Walsh hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the seventh and Frank Cianciotta singled home the winning run to give the Rebels a wild win over the Hornets.

Junior Nick Ruszczyk tripled during the bottom of the seventh and finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle. He went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBI for the game, while sophomore Ryan Bearse was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored.

Holmdel took a 13-12 lead on back-to-back home runs by senior Chris Ammirati and senior Matt Fanelli. Ammirati's three-run shot tied the game at 12 and Fanelli followed with his fourth hit of the game to put Holmdel in front. Fanelli finished 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Sal Monticciolo also homered for Holmdel, his second of the young season.

No. 6 Freehold Boro 2, Shore 1

Junior Nick Aiello went 3-for-4 and drove in the winning run with a one-out, game-ending RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Colonials (3-1) over the Blue Devils (1-2) for their third straight win.

Junior Dane Del Valle pitched a complete-game two-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts on 81 pitches. Del Valle allowed one unearned run in the top of the sixth. Aiello singled and scored in the bottom of the sixth to pull Freehold even.

Ocean 13, Long Branch 3 (6 Innings)

Junior Matt Redbord went 3-for-3 with two RBI, including an RBI single during Ocean's nine-run sixth inning that sealed a Spartans (2-1) win over the Green Wave (0-4). Junior Evan Arbeeny hit a two-run single in the sixth and junior Jack D'Auria smacked an RBI double during the rally.

Senior right-hander Alec Keezer worked 5 2/3 innings and the maximum 111 pitches to earn the win. Keezer struck out eight and did not allow an earned run.

Sophomore Mx Winters added two hits for Ocean, while Justin Navarro and T.J. Brewer each singled and drove in a run for Long Branch.
