(1) Colts Neck 2, (17) Freehold 1 (10 Innings)

Junior Andrew Conforti hit a ground ball inside the third base bag and down the left-field line with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 10th to plate the winning run and send the Cougars (21-2) past the Colonials (14-12).

Colts Neck advances to the SCT quarterfinals Wednesday against the winner of Saturday night's game between Toms River South and Red Bank Catholic.

Junior Tim Cavrak earned the win with one inning of relief in just his second varsity appearance as a pitcher. Senior left-hander Mario Ferraioli relieved starter Chris Murphy with two out in the top of the sixth and retired all 10 batters he faced in 3 1/3 innings. Ferraioli struck out six of the 10 Freehold hitters who stepped to the plate against him.

Senior right fielder Tyler Kay went 3-for-4 with a run scored at the plate and threw a runner out at home for the second out of the top of the fifth with the score still tied at 1. Dante Cuzzolino tried to score from second on a single by Marco Meleo and Kay's throw led catcher Jeremy Slad directly into Cuzzolino's path. Cuzzolino barreled over Slad, but the catcher hung on to record the out.

Freehold third baseman Anthony Matteo preserved the tie in the bottom of the fifth with a diving stab on a one-hop shot by Cavrak that led to an inning-ending fielder's choice.

Murphy allowed just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts, but walked four and needed 130 pitches to get through 5 2/3 innings.

Freehold jumped on top in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Tom Holdorf, who finished 2-for-4. Colts Neck pulled even in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by first baseman Jordan Gonzalez.

Steve Rullo pitched into the sixth inning, allowing a run on only three hits while striking out one and walking three. James Manos worked into and out of trouble throughout his 4 1/3 innings of relief for Freehold and allowed one unearned run on four hits and five walks - three of them intentional.

(3) CBA 11, (19) Brick 1 (6 Innings)

Brandon Martorano and Cid Porter both went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI and Martorano got CBA started with a two-run home run in the first inning as the Colts (18-5) rolled to a win over the Green Dragons (13-10).

CBA will host No. 6 seed and Class A North rival Middletown South in Wednesday's SCT quarterfinals.

James Miller also went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while will Morgan, Luca Dalatri and Kenny Campbell each added a double at the plate for CBA.

Senior Mike Garvey allowed one unearned run on three hits and a walk over five innings to earn the win.

(23) Shore 5, (7) Manalapan 2

Junior Chas Breithoff allowed two runs over six hits with a walk and four strikeouts and the Blue Devils (14-9) knocked off the Braves (17-8) to advance to the SCT quarterfinals Wednesday against No. 15 Manasquan.

Matt McCarthy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Justin Halper was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Shore offense. Matt Pennell took over for Breithoff on the mound and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.

Jake Sadowitz and Stephe Carbonaro each had two hits for Manalapan, while starter and losing pitcher Tyler Stafflinger allowed two earned runs with six strikeouts and one walk in 5 2/3 innings.

(4) Jackson Memorial 2, (13) Howell 1

Chris Hawryluk pitched a seven-hit complete game with five strikeouts and no walks and the Jaguars (18-5) edged the Rebels (10-11) to advance to the SCT quarterfinals Wednesday against Wall.

Rich Rountree led off the bottom of the fifth and scored the deciding run on a Kyle Lona sacrifice fly that broke a 1-1 tie. The two teams traded runs in the first inning, with Howell scoring on a Rob Napolitano single in the top of the inning before Jackson Memorial answered with an RBI single by Brandon Janofsky.

Donovan O'Malley and Austin Kroeger combined on a three-hitter for Howell and O'Malley allowed two unearned runs.

(6) Middletown South 7, (11) Marlboro 2

Zac deRocco pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and the Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to help the Eagles (19-7) top the Mustangs (11-9) for the second time in three meetings and advance to the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinals Wednesday against No. 3 CBA.

Zach Schild opened the scoring with an RBI infield single in the fourth and Jeremy Joyce, Nolan Pereless and Johnny Zega all followed with an RBI single each in the fourth. Jon Martin also had a sacrifice fly in the inning and Dave Mangarelli drove in two runs - one on a fielder's choice in the fourth and another on a sac fly in the sixth.

DeRocco took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before giving up two runs that cut the Middletown South lead to 6-2. Sophomore Gene Napolitano broke up the no-hitter with an RBI double off the right-field fence with two out in the inning and sophomore Will Trochiano followed with an RBI single to make it 6-2.

(5) Wall 8, (12) St. John Vianney 0

Sophomore Matt Yard pitched a five-hit shutout, Dan Wondrack went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI at the plate and the Crimson Knights (20-5) took advantage of six St. John Vianney (12-7) errors to beat the Lancers and move on to the SCT quarterfinals against Jackson Memorial on Wednesday.

Yard walked two and struck out four, while Wondrack moved within one hit of 100 for his career.

(8) Red Bank Catholic 4, (9) Toms River South 3

Sophomore Anthony DeRosa hit a tie-breaking RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that led to a second run on an error in the outfield and the Caseys (17-6) held on to beat the Indians (17-7) and advance to the SCT quarterfinals on Wednesday against top-seeded Colts Neck.

DeRosa finished 2-for-3 and fellow sophomore Aaron Ahn was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, one of which came on DeRosa's single in the fifth. Sophomore center fielder Dom Caraballo was 2-for-2 with an RBI and junior second baseman Mike Spinelli finished 2-for-3 in the win.

John Poccia went the distance for the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five.

Austin Gonella went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored to lead Toms River South.

Point Boro 9, Point Beach 1

Sebastian Severio and Sam Monaco collected two hits apiece and Severio and Quin Hornish each drove in two as the Panthers rolled to a win over the Garnet Gulls in a battle between crosstown rivals at the home of the Lakewood BlueClaws.
