Class A North

Colts Neck 6, No. 10 Howell 5 (6 Innings)

Jordan Gonzalez hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning that put Colts Neck ahead 6-2 and proved to be the difference for the Cougars (2-0, 2-0) in a rain-shortened win over the Rebels (2-1, 1-1). Starting pitcher Gianni Magliaro hit a solo home run and struck out eight in four innings of work while taking the no-decision.

Ryan Wares went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Howell while Andrew Larsen and Mike Levy each finished 2-for-3.

Manalapan 3, Freehold Twp. 1

Nick Marotta picked up his first varsity win with four strong innings of work and senior Alex Wolf nailed down the three-inning save to go with a two-run single as the Braves (1-2, 1-1) beat the Patriots (1-2, 0-2) for their first win of the season. Senior Dan Russo went 2-for-3 with an RBI double for Manalapan.

 

Class A Central

Shore at Holmdel - PPD, TBD

The Blue Devils led the Hornets, 9-3, with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but the game was called due to rain and will be restarted from the beginning.

Manasquan at Rumson-Fair Haven - PPD, TBD

 

Class A South

Brick Memorial 4, Brick 3

The Mustangs (1-3, 1-1) scored four unearned runs off hard-luck losing pitcher Evan Lobato in the sixth inning and held on to beat the Green Dragons (2-2, 1-2) for their first win of the season. Senior Anthony Assante worked 5 1/3 innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10.

Brick Memorial sophomore James Donlon came through with a pinch-hit, two-run single in the sixth inning in his first varsity at-bat. Junior Ian Ambrose came on to save the game in the seventh by striking out the side.

Brick senior Nick Zbranak drove in two more runs, giving him 10 RBI in Brick's first four games. Lobato allowed five hits, four walks and four unearned runs with five strikeouts in taking the loss.

Class B North

Matawan 1, Ocean 0

Senior Nick Santuccio pitched a five-hit shutout and the Huskies (2-0, 1-0) edged the Spartans (2-1, 2-1) to open their Class B North schedule. Santuccio struck out five and walked one while needing only 85 pitches to finish the game.

Joe Piscopo singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Justin Henderson in the fourth for the game's lone run. Mike Creamer also had a double in the inning to advance Piscopo to third.

Ocean junior Blake Demeter allowed just one run on three hits in taking the loss in his first varsity start.

Class B Central

Keansburg 6, Keyport 0

Senior Mike Politano threw a four-hit shutout and Ian Terry highlighted a four-run second with a bases-clearing, three-run triple as the Titans (2-1, 2-1) beat the rival Red Raiders (0-3, 0-3). Politano struck out six and walked two in the win.

St. Rose at Henry Hudson - PPD, April 16, 3:45 p.m.

Mater Dei Prep 4, Point Beach 3

Senior Jerry Trotta singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to plate the winning run and deliver the Seraphs (2-2, 2-1) a dramatic win over the Garnet Gulls (1-1, 1-1). Junior Vincenzo Mezzacappa hit a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to knot the score at 3.

Junior Anthony Stanziale pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing three runs on eight hits with no walks and a strikeout. Losing pitcher John Van Schoick - who came on in relief of starter Noah Yates - helped his cause with a solo home run in the fourth inning to give Point Beach a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth and the Garnet Gulls led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Jackson Liberty 2, Manchester 0 (5 Innings)

Senior Dan Naif pitched five shutout innings and drove in a run with an RBI single as the Lions (1-3, 1-2) beat the Hawks (2-2, 2-2) for their first win of the season in a rain shortened affair.
