Seniors Troy Miller, Mark Iacobino and Christian Gedell each blasted a home run during Howell's seven-run first inning and the Rebels buried the Lions in five innings.

Miller and Gedell each hit three-run homers to bookend a solo blast by Iacobino, who played the hero role Friday when he hit the go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning in a 2-1 win over Manalapan.

Gedell was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, three runs scored and four RBI to go with the home run. Miller went 1-for-2 with two runs and two walks on top of his three-run home run. Junior Grant Hackett also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI for Howell.

Senior Donovan O'Malley earned the win by allowing three runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out nine in a five-inning complete game.

Senior Seth Ziegler homered for Middletown North.

Jarrett Dial doubled home a run and Brandon Haggerty knocked in two with a single in a seven-run Lacey fourth that propelled the Lions to a win over the Green Dragons in their official season opener. The two teams played into the fifth inning Friday before the game was called due to lightning with Lacey leading 1-0.

Anthony Elefante allowed three runs in four innings to earn the win before Tom Coraggio came on for the three-inning save, during which he allowed one run and struck out seven.

A.J. Serrino, John Prato and Mike Soldo each doubled and singled for Brick.

Seniors Joe DelGrippo and Ryan Franzoni each went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI to lead the Garnet Gulls past the Blue Bishops for a season-opening win. Franzoni hit two doubles and both Franzoni and DelGrippo stole two bases apiece as well.

Sophomore Chris Russo struck out five and allowed two hits and no walks in four scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Sophomore Josh Yates was 2-for-4 with an RBI and junior Kevin Donnelly was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore John Nista also drove in two and scored one in a 1-for-3 effort.

Sophomore Tom Ruscitti hit a two-run home run, senior Matt Aires hit a two-run double and senior Ryan Paul threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings as the Golden Eagles blanked the Lions to give head coach Mike Casale his first career win in the season-opener for both teams.

Paul struck out seven, walked three and allowed three hits while pitching into the seventh inning. Joe Bassett recorded the final two outs of the game to close it out.

The Rams and Vikings played nine full innings before the game was called on account of darkness. The remainder of the game can be scheduled for a date to be determined, picked up in the top of the 10th inning and played to completion.
