Freehold Twp. 8, Marlboro 5

Senior Mike Pirrotta took a perfect game into the fifth inning and pitched five innings of one-hit ball as the Patriots (5-5, 4-3) held off the Mustangs (5-7, 2-5) for an A North win. Pirrotta struck out four, walked on and allowed one single before departing with 71 pitches and an 8-0 lead. He also knocked in a run with an RBI single.

Senior Zack Pericone was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored and also recorded the final out of the game on the mound. Senior Andrew Beam belted a two-run home run, Cristian Corcione was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored and Brandon Smith was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Freehold Township.

Jared Wright hit an RBI triple, Will Trochiano added an RBI double and Justin Kapuscinski checked in with a two-run single for Marlboro.

Ian Li threw 66 pitches and took the loss for Marlboro.

Danny Clemente allowed one unearned run on five hits and three walks while striking out eight in the hard-luck loss.

Senior Ryan Boyle broke a 1-1 tie with a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Jaguars held off a seventh-inning threat to hand the Indians their first loss of the season.

Starter Matt D'Amore pitched into the seventh inning before turning the game over the Mike Dimino, who nailed down the save and recorded the final out with the potential tying run on third base.

Toms River South tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with Tom Campo doubled and scored on an RBI single by Connor Leatherman. Jackson Memorial struck first when Kyle Thaiss singled and scored from second base on a wild pitch in the second inning.

Sophomore Liam Meyer blasted a game-winning solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to pay back the Seraphs (4-5, 4-3) for doing the same to the Titans (4-6, 4-4) earlier in the season. Ryan Turner hit a walkoff home run in nearly an identical scenario on April 13 to give Mater Dei a 6-5 win over Keansburg.

Colin Fernandez and Justin Young combined on a five-inning no-hitter and the Red Raiders (2-7, 2-4) rolled to a win over the Panthers (0-7, 0-6). Fernandez struck out four and walked two over three inning and Young followed up with a strikeout and a walk in the final two innings.

Jackson Aumack was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the offense and Zack Whitehead also went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in the win.

 

Henry Hudson 6, Asbury Park 5

Senior Brendan Carlstrom threw five strong innings and helped his cause with a double, RBI and two runs scored as the Admirals (5-4, 4-3) edged the Blue Bishops (0-4, 0-4). Carlstrom allowed one earned run on three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts over five innings. He threw 70 pitches and finished 1-for-2 at the plate.

Tim Farrell also went 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Henry Hudson.

Devin Nash-McGee finished 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored for Asbury Park. Luis Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Christian Bragg finished 1-for-4 with three RBI for the Bishops.

Alex Peavy did not allow a hit in his four innings of work, but gave up three earned runs on four walks while striking out five and throwing 81 pitches.

 

 

Class B South

Manchester 3, Donovan Catholic 1

Freshman James Johns pitched a two-hitter and sophomore Jack Felipe led the offense as the Hawks (6-4, 6-2) rode their underclassmen to a win over the Griffins (4-6, 3-5). Felipe finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and junior Patrick Carney also went 1-for-2 with an RBI in Manchester's four-run third inning.

Johns allowed one earned run on two hits and four walks while striking out three on 84 pitches to pick up the win.

Donovan Catholic's lone run came on a solo homer by Bart Goble, who finished 2-for-3. Sophomore James Poplawski took the loss on the mound, allowing three earned run on five hits and two walks over six innings. Poplawski struck out two and threw 76 pitches.

The walk-off hit made a winner out of Tom Coraggio, who twirled a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts and no walks.

Howell 11, No. 6 Manasquan 1 (5 Innings)

Junior Nick Ruszczyk went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI and the Rebels (4-7) pounded the Warriors (7-4). Grant Hackett and Ryan Bearse also went 2-for-3 each, with Hackett also doubling and driving in three and Bearse knocking in one.

Nick Lorenzo was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and J.P. Traynor finished 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI as well.

Mike Wynne picked up the win by allowing one run on one hit over five innings while walking four and striking out six. Wynne tossed 86 pitches.

Ethan Thompson had Manasquan's only hit in the game - a single that knocked in the only Warriors run in the fourth.

No. 7 CBA 4, Westfield 3

Sophomore Spencer Bauer hit a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth and junior Perry Quartuccio capped the inning with a go-ahead RBI single to give the Colts (8-3) a come-from-behind win over the Blue Devils (4-8).

Junior Matt Barnes earned the win in relief of junior starter Andrea Dalatri (4 2/3 innings, 69 pitches), pitching 1 1/3 innings and allowing one unearned run. Junior Jake Lawrie pitched a one-two-three seventh inning to earn the save.

Dalatri, junior Jack Harnisch and junior Matt Fitzsimmons all doubled for CBA.
