Class A North

Marlboro 11, Manalapan 8

The Mustangs scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings - including six in the sixth - to overcome an early 8-3 deficit and beat the Braves for their second straight win. Mike Santaromita went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and four RBI to lead the comeback, while winning pitcher Dustin Jensen was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Kyle Ondar also went 1-for-1 with three runs scored, Justin Trochiano was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI, and Evan Rosenthal went 1-for-2 with a run scored in the win.

Junior left-hander Andrew Nardi pitched a scoreless seventh to close out the win for the Mustangs, who have won two in a row after starting the season 1-5 with five one-run losses - three of which ended on game-ending hits by the home team in the final inning.

John Diana, Jake Sadowitz and Alex Wolf each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Manalapan, while Matt Parke and Will Meany each added a double in the loss.

 

Class A Central

Monmouth 8, No. 8 Shore 3

Junior Matt Vincenti led off the game with his first career varsity home run and Jon Bonczyk earned the win on the mound as the Falcons beat the Blue Devils, ending Shore's six-game winning streak. Bonczyk went the distance, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.

Vincenti finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Christian Hoplock went 3-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI, and Bonczyk helped his cause by going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Nick Blaney went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in the sixth inning that cut Monmouth's lead to 6-3.

 

Class A South

Southern 9, Brick 8

The Rams scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a four-run deficit and beat the Green Dragons for their first win in Class A South this season.

Southern pounded six straight hits during the big inning, with Nick Sinopoli, Chris Starner and Nick Scalone all doubling during the streak and Rob Velardi adding a triple. Kevin Dynak capped the scoring in the fifth by dropping a suicide squeeze bunt to plate the ninth Southern run.

Starner finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Scalone, Sinopoli and Vinnie Colecchia all had two hits apiece. Jared Lubanski earned his third win of the season - all of them in relief - and Zach Mason nailed down the save by retiring Carmen Sclafani, who went 4-for-5 at the plate for Brick.

Toms River North 2, Lacey 1

Junior right-hander Doug Molnar pitched a four-hitter and the Mariners edged the Lions to sweep the regular-season series and snap a five-game losing streak. Molnar struck out six and walked two in the victory.

Sophomore Jeff Ciervo went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in both Toms River North runs, while senior Beau Wyckoff added a double in the win.

Brett Kinsey allowed two unearned runs on five hits and two walks in a hard-luck loss.

Toms River South 2, No. 1 Toms River East 1

Senior Christian Campbell slid in with the winning run on a straight steal of home plate in the bottom of the seventh to give the Indians a thrilling win over the Raiders.

The straight steal of home was the second time the Indians took advantage of Raider starter C.J. Hirschy in such a situation this season. Russell Messler - who was at the plate when Campbell stole home Monday night - forced Hirschy into a balk when he broke from third to home in the first meeting back on April 1.

Messler finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and scored on a Ryan Shiffer single to tie the game at 1 in the bottom of the sixth. Toms River East broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth on a bases-loaded single by Tommy Vincent.

Ray Ligouri pitched out of trouble in both the sixth and seventh innings to pick up his first win of the season. Sophomore starter Trevor Wagner pitched five strong innings and did not allow a hit for the first 4 1/3 innings until Max Lasky broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out single in the fifth.

Toms River South's defense backed Wager and Ligouri up by throwing three runners out at home plate - one in the second inning by left fielder Mark DeBlasi, one in the fifth by right fielder Jake Ryan and another in the sixth by Campbell from shortstop.

Spencer Kapp also went 2-for-3 for Toms River South and began the seventh-inning rally with a lead-off single to center.

Hirschy went the distance for Toms River East and took his first loss of the season, allowing seven hits and one walk in defeat.

 

Class B North

Freehold 14, Red Bank 0 (5 Innings)

Alex Mulhern and Luke Tiefenthaler each drove in four runs and Paul Tashian struck out four in four shutout innings to help the Colonials hammer the Bucs. In addition to the four RBI, Mulhern finished 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two stolen bases while Tiefenthaler was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Sophomore Nick LaMorte was also 1-for-1 with a double, two RBI and a run scored for Freehold.

 

Class B Central

St. Rose 17, Keansburg 2 (5 Innings)

The Purple Roses scored nine runs in the second inning and coasted to a win over the Titans to remain unbeaten in Class B Central. Will King went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, including an RBI double in the second. Ryan Stewart was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI, which included an RBI triple in the nine-run second.

Senior Conor Gammond also went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the win. Parker Haggerty allowed no runs on two hits with no walks and four strikeouts in three innings of work to earn the win.

Point Beach 7, Asbury Park 6

Antonio Garcia's bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the eighth made a winner out of Noah Yates and gave the Garnet Gulls a win over the Blue Bishops.

Asbury Park senior Will Wells walked and scored in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 6 and send it into extra innings.

Yates went 2-for-3 with a triple two runs scored and pitched two hitless innings with a walk and four strikeouts to pick up the win. The tying run scored by Wells was unearned.

Garcia finished 1-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base, while Luke Maas was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Mike Frauenheim and Sean Struncius each went 2-for-4 in the win, with Frauenheim adding a run scored and an RBI.

Wells finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases to lead Asbury Park. Paul Bacon also went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a stolen base, while Jahmel Dixon was 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in defeat.

Henry Hudson 6, Ranney 2

Alonso Olson went 3-for-4 and Ben Thompson scored three runs to help make a winner out of starter Kyle Rauen and give the Admirals a win over the Panthers, ending a three-game skid.

 

Class B South

Lakewood 6, Monsignor Donovan 5 (8 Innings)

Harry Brown went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and the Piners walked off with a win over the Griffins. Alex Catalina pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing one earned run on five hits and five walks while striking out five. Catalina pitched around seven Lakewood errors.

No. 6 Barnegat 13, Manchester 3 (6 Innings)

Sophomore and winning pitcher Jared Kacso went 2-for-3 with two run scored, two RBI and his first varsity home run and allowed three unearned runs on four hits to help lead the Bengals to a win over the Hawks and ace right-hander Devin Tomei (3-2).

Junior Ed Rogan highlighted a four-run first for Barnegat with a two-run single after senior Ryan Ulrich and Nik Fraim began the rally with consecutive singles to start the frame. Matt Wolfgang doubled and scored in the bottom of the second inning while Fraim and Matt Owens each added doubles as well.

Central 13, Point Boro 2 (5 Innings)

Andrew DiPiazza capped a five-RBI game with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth that ended the game via the 10-run rule and the Golden Eagles got back to the .500 mark by rolling past the Panthers. DiPiazza finished the game 2-for-3 with a double to go with the grand slam and five RBI.

Senior Christian Bearden went 1-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored, while Frank Rose was 1-for-2 with a double and three runs scored. Jake Dominguez also went 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and 2 stolen bases.

Junior Anthony Arneth pitched five innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four.

Ryan Doyle was 1-for-2 with a solo home run while Sam Monoco went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Point Boro.

Jackson Liberty 7, Pinelands 5

The Lions and Wildcats traded four-run first innings and Jackson Liberty edged Pinelands the rest of the way for its fifth straight win. Dave Lunn highlighted a four-run first for Pinelands with a three-run home run, but Jackson Liberty answered thanks to a three-run double by sophomore Joe Santanello.

Senior James Sofield added RBI singles in both the fourth and sixth innings and finished 2-for-3 with a run scored to go with the two RBI. Sofield also earned a one-out save by retiring the final batter of the game with runners on first and second base representing the tying runs.

Junior Howard Taylor earned the win by lasting 6 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk to go with 11 strikeouts. Dan Naif and Kyle Tavaska each added a double in the win.

Patrick Spagnola went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Vinny Bondinello singled home a run for Pinelands.

 

Non-Division

Raritan 6, Matawan 5

Senior Bruce Strickland drove in four runs in the first four innings to stake Raritan to an early 6-1 lead and the Rockets held off a charge from the Huskies to pick up a non-division win. Strickland finished 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBI and junior teammate Tom Pulcine went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two stolen bases for Raritan, which scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on one each in the second, third and fourth innings.

Senior Mike Kelleher won his second straight start by allowing one run over six innings before giving way to the bullpen. Joe Piscopo went 3-for-3 with with a run scored and Jon Rodriguez finished 1-for-2 with an RBI for Matawan.

 

Non-Conference

Red Bank Catholic 2, Randolph 1

Senior Jack Kissinger pitched a complete-game four-hitter with three strikeouts and the Caseys edged the Rams for their fifth straight win. Junior Tom Merlo drove in a run with a double and Brendan Madigan plated the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.
