Alex Cosentino plated the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh and the Huskies topped Coastal Carolina commit Anthony Veniziano and Warren Hills to advance to the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday.

Winning pitcher Adam Elliott doubled home Matawan's first run of the game and limited the home team to two runs over six innings before Richard Joa came on to save it in the seventh.

 

Central Jersey Group IV

(8) Marlboro 4, (9) Hillsborough 3 (8 Innings)

Noah Thomas lifted a game-winning sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Mustangs outlasted the Raiders in extra innings to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday, when they will host No. 16 North Brunswick. The Raiders upset No. 1 East Brunswick on Monday, 2-0.

Jeremy Dyzenhaus went the distance for Marlboro, scattering nine hits and allowing just one earned run while striking out seven and walking none.

Thomas finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and Will Trochiano was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored the game-winning run on Thomas's winning fly ball. Freshman Justin Kapuscinski was 1-for-1 with two walks, a run scored and an RBI.

The Cougars scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Braves in a game that was continued Tuesday in the bottom of the first inning after being suspended on Monday due to inclement weather.

Sophomore Dan DeBlasio led the game off Monday with a solo home run off St. John's recruit Gavin Hollowell and Montgomery battled back to tie the score in the bottom of the second inning on Tuesday. Hollowell came back Tuesday and wound up pitching six innings, during which he allowed three hits, one walk and struck out seven.

Carmine Rainone gave Manalapan a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI double that plated Mike Mollica, who doubled to lead off the inning. Montgomery loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning via a leadoff walk, a double by Mike Parizio, and an intentional walk to Hollowell. Matt Rubayo then delivered a one-out single to left that plated the tying and winning runs.

Tyler Stafflinger allowed one run on four hits while striking out six and walking none over seven innings for Manalapan. Stephen Hansen took the loss with 1/3 of an inning of relief.

(6) Edison 2, (11) Colts Neck 1

Colts Neck's seventh-inning rally came up short with the tying run on third base and the Eagles pulled out a win over the Cougars. Lenin Gomez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that proved to be the difference.

(10) Old Bridge 4, (7) Middletown North 1 (8 Innings)

Garrett French hit a game-tying sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, but the Knights scored three runs in the top of the eighth to pull out a win over the Lions. Old Bridge will travel to play No. 2 Hunterdon Central in Thursday's quarterfinal.

French allowed one unearned run on seven hits over seven innings to keep Middletown North in the game. Joe Papeo pitched a one-hitter over eight innings for Old Bridge in earning the win.

 

Central Jersey Group III

(8) Brick 10, (9) Hamilton West 2

John Prato, A.J. Serrino and Matt Stadelberger combined to go 10-for-13 with six RBI and the Green Dragons hit their way past the Hornets and in the sectional quarterfinals Thursday against top-seeded Steinert.

Prato went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI to lead the way and Serrino and Stadelberger each finished 3-for-4. Serrino drove in four runs and Stadelberger scored two.

Nic Chirichello allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts over four innings to earn the win and Mike Soldo closed out the win with three scoreless innings. Soldo allowed two hits and struck out three.

Brian Olesen capped a three-run seventh inning with a walkoff RBI single and the Spartans pulled out a thrilling win over the Scarlet Fliers to advance to the sectional quarterfinals against No. 12 Allentown.

(1) Steinert 4, (16) Red Bank 1

Nick Massa pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts and allowed one earned, but the Bucs came up short against the top-seeded Spartans. Jack Mangold knocked in the lone Red Bank run.

(6) Nottingham 2, (11) Jackson Liberty 0

Matt Pickus allowed two runs on five hits during a complete-game effort, but Nick Houghton answered with a five-hit shutout as the Northstars took down the Lions. Senior Ryan Van Wickle went 2-for-3 in the loss.

(7) Wall 3, (10) Pemberton 2

Jake Malone hit a game-tying two-run double in the fourth inning and scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk by Sean Larkin as the Crimson Knights beat the Hornets to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday against No. 2 Middletown South.

Malone finished 2-for-3 and Nick Maciejewski added a double and a run scored in the three-run inning for Wall. Catcher Jamie Loesch started the three-run rally off with a single.

Regan Dombroski scattered eight hits and three walks while striking out six in seven innings to earn the win.

(2) Middletown South 7, (15) Ewing 2

Johnny Zega went 3-for-4 with his ninth home run and three RBI to help lead the Eagles to a win over the Blue Devils to advance to Thursday's sectional quarterfinals against Wall. Zega also doubled and scored two runs.

Catcher Zach Schild was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for Middletown South while Jon Martin, Jeremy Joyce and Ryan Ruziecki were all 1-for-2. Martin drove in two runs, Joyce scored two and Ruziecki scored one.

Martin allowed one hit and a walk over four shutout innings to earn the win. The junior right-hander also struck out seven.

Matt Birdsall allowed one run in a complete-game effort, but the Rockets could not muster up a run in a loss to the top-seeded Terriers. Delaware Valley will host No. 8 Monmouth on Thursday in the sectional quarterfinals.

Paul Birzin hit a go-ahead two-run double as part of a four-run sixth inning that lifted the Falcons to a come-from behind win over the Mountaineers. Monmouth will travel to play top-seeded Delaware Valley in Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.

(6) Robbinsville 7, (11) Rumson-Fair Haven 0

The Ravens scored seven unearned  runs in the sixth inning to break open a scoreless game and beat the Bulldogs.

(2) Point Boro 7, (15) Holmdel 3

Winning pitcher Frank Graziano went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI to help his own cause on the mound and lead the Panthers to a win over the Hornets. Graziano allowed on earned run on five hits and three walks while striking out five in four innings.

Bill Feehan also went 3-for-3, doubled and scored three runs, while Sam Monaco was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mike Falconetti was 1-for-2 with two RBI and also closed out the win by allowing one run on four hits while striking out four.

Point Boro will host Manasquan in Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.

Alex Galarza, Andrew DiBona and Mike Carannante each went 2-for-3 for Holmdel.

Ian Terry allowed four hits over six innings, but the Crusaders stopped the Titans to advance to the sectional quarterfinals against top-seeded South River.

Josh Yates keyed a fast start with a two-run double in a three-run second inning and the Garnet Gulls handled Somerset Tech to advance to the sectional quarterfinals against South Amboy.

Tanner Smith tripled and drove in a run, Jude Lovegren was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI, Kenny MacPherson was 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Ryan Franzoni finished 1-for-1 with a double and two runs for Point Beach.

Kevin Donnelly worked the first three innings to earn the win and John VanSchoick pitched two hitless innings with five strikeouts to close it out. VanSchoick also went 1-for-1 with two RBI for the Gulls.

 

South Jersey Group IV

(8) Toms River North 4, (9) Eastern 3

The Mariners capped a three-run seventh by scoring on a wild pitch to walk off with a come-from-behind win over the Vikings. Jared Bellissimo went 2-for-4 with a game-tying two-run double in the bottom of the seventh for Toms River North, which will play either No. 1 Clearview or No. 16 Rancocas Valley on Thursday. Those two teams will resume their game Tuesday in the sixth inning with the score tied at 6 after Monday's meeting was suspended due to inclement weather.

(4) Cherokee 7, (13) Howell 4

Connor Fey, J.P. Traynor and Grant Hackett each had an RBI hit in a four-run sixth inning, but it was too little, too late as the Rebels fell to the Chiefs.

(7) Millville 3, (10) Brick Memorial 2

Mike Kraft hit a solo home run and Brian Markoski and James Donlon each went 1-for-3 with a double, but the Mustangs fell short on the road against the Thunderbolts.

Third baseman Jorden Jurkiewicz saved the game with a defensive play in the bottom of the seventh and doubled home a run in a four-run 10th inning as the Lions knocked off the Chargers in 10 innings to advance to Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.

Jurkiewicz made a charging, bare-handed play on a squeeze attempt and flipped the ball to catcher Paul Carluccio for the out at the plate to cut down the potential game-ending run.

Don Zellman took a no-hitter to the seventh inning before Timber Creek rallied to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

 

South Jersey Group II

(8) Barnegat 4, (9) Middle Twp. 0

Jared Kacso and Jason Groome combined on a two-hit shutout and the Bengals beat the Panthers to advance to the sectional quarterfinals against top-seeded West Deptford on Thursday.

Kacso allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three in four innings before Groome entered in the fifth. The Vanderbilt commit and projected top-10 MLB Draft pick also allowed one hit and one walk while striking out seven to earn the save.

Aaron McLaughlin led the Barnegat offense by going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. The Bengals scored on an Anthony Lani squeeze bunt, an error and two wild pitches.

Groome will get the ball to start the game on Thursday against the No. 1 seed in the section and is eligible to pitch seven innings in the game.

(10) Manchester 2, (7) Lower Cape May 1

Jon Meaney hit a go-ahead RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning and the Hawks edged Lower Cape May to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday against Haddonfield.

Matt Bryant tied the game with an RBI triple in the fifth inning and Dillon Barry closed out the win with a two-inning save.

Joe Felipe allowed one run over five innings to earn the win and will have five innings of eligibility at Haddonfield on Thursday.
