Central Regional has tabbed Mike Casale as its next varsity baseball coach, athletic director John Scran said via email Wednesday night. Casale was approved at Wednesday night's Board of Education Meeting.

Prior to coaching the Central freshman team for the past six years, Casale played baseball at Monmouth University and starred at Toms River North during his high school playing career.

Casale succeeds Scran as head coach of the Eagles after Scran accepted the athletic director position in July. In eight seasons as head coach, Scran won two Shore Conference Class B South division titles in 2008 and 2009 and led the Golden Eagles to the Al Kunzman Ocean County Tournament championship in 2014, the program's first county championship since 1986, when the tournament's namesake was the coach at Central.

Scran stepped down with a career record of 108-77. Casale will take over a team that went 9-14 in 2015 and returns a handful of returning players, including seniors Ryan Paul, Matt Aires and Joe Bassett, as well as sophomore Tom Ruscitti.
